I have a rather big reunion coming up so I had signed up with an internet site that tells you what you need to know about your reunion The website offers a feature that uses secure email so you can get in touch with all of your old friends I would never answer emails from unknown quantities but hey if your high school doesn’t know you well then who does? If anyone has seen the movie “Grosse Point im Boone volunteers 24 hours a week " MM : ! ' ' : yadda! I answered “Jeff” although I wrestled with that decision Sometimes you get a sense about things and mine was telling me to leave it alone (Queue nostalgicmusic preferably Duran Duran or maybe ' Adam Ant) ' durour school in Jeff showed up ing my senior year when my friends and I were already sick of the boys bur own age Jeff was different! He blasted in from the Bast coast com- -' ' plete with a streak of blue in his hair and a gazillion safety pins on one leg of his black jeans (hey it was the 80s) My friends and I heaved a col-- : lective sigh inKaysville Utah you do not often see something new! Anyway I’mnot going into all the details of that year in high school nuinly because I am sure my mother still thinks I was perfect Let’s just say it was a memorable prom and leave it at that So back to the email I wrote back to Jeff giving a few simple details about what I was doing Jeff said he had landed in Vegas How naughty! How totally fun! Then (ugh) he mentioned his wife Irene and their two adorable children He said he was older and wiser Good for old Jeff: We should all be older and wiser However I could not help but feel like if was just no fun That had to mean that the blue hair was gone I tried to picture Jeff older arid wiser sitting behind a desk pushing papers around and picking up diapers on the way home! Here is what I think All old ‘ boyfriends should be left alone It is best if we think of them in their place whatever it was We should not ever Hod but if they became hap- pily married to Irene and have two kids If the idea of Irene doesn't ruin ' the safety pin image I don’t know v what does As for the reunion I kind of think H might be lame I bet everyone's gbt ' an Irene name be his real or not may may Mitch MascaroHerald v : 70 : KeMy Dubois Davis lives in Smith- - V:-- 0-'- tions” Secondly RSVP offers supplemental accident See SENIORS on C2 - - ’ Journal : Jim Boone facing camera who volunteers with Common Ground puts away adaptive cycles with the ' help of Americorp volunteer Nick Coppola at the Whittier Center in Logan : field Many of those are spent canoeing and biking with Common Ground a program that offers outdoor recreational opportunities for youth andadults with disabilities “They do things that I like to do on my own” he said But he says that’s not the only reason he devotes ' his time to it “It gives a ot more purpose to life" he said “And I don’t age quite so fast ” Which means a lot coming from Boone who is an unblushing 80 years old Boone is one of nearly 300 Cache Valley resi-- dents who volunteer on a weekly basis with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) This government-funde- d program helps people who are over S3 and local organizations to find each other “But it's more than just a placement service” ' Laurel McBride program coordinator for RSVP said “We really want to help the community” In order to do that RSVP takes the task of matching organizations referred to as “stations” with volunteers very seriously “We talk to them and find out their interests” McBride said “We want to place them in a spot that is not only good for them but good for the station as well” Lbcally there are about 5Q stations participating with RSVP including the hospital local schools and a variety of others so the odds of making a compatible match are good but not really anycouldn’t work thing a determined volunteer-to-b- e but on his or her own So why go through RSVP? Well first of all they offer mileage reimburse- ment at 30 cents per mile which was the main ' incentive for Boone when he first joined ' “That's great for our volunteers who do Meals on Wheels” McBride said “and also for our Vol- unteers who live way out in Mendon or something and have to travel quite a bit to get to their sfa--’ non-pro- fit would like to say that the resemblances are uncanny! In the movie Minnie Driver suddenly hears from her high School boyfriend just before their reunion It’s exactly the same thing! OK except that my high school boyfriend is not a secretly a hit man (that I am aware of) nor is he John Ciisak (darn) nor am I Min- -' nie Driver: I think Minnie is a silly name for an adult person anyway OK so maybe there aren’t that many similarities I hate it when life is not like the movies ' Anyway back to the email It was just ari innocent chatty message ' Friendly but not flirty Curious but clearly not the work of a secret hit man The email said that he remembered me fondly and has always wondered where I ended up yadda - ts By Jasmine Michaelson Blank”! : useless senior volunteers keep valley running smoothly - Death Valley ery iiiucH alive S0a automobiles!
