These traits blended nicely with her gracious and charming nature An image of Virginia that will remain with many is of her buzzing about town in her yei- low Mercedes traveling from appointment to appointment always with a purpose In mind At heart career driven Virginia's life was marked by three distinguished and distinctive she eerved as department head of Home riomics Education at Utah State life began when University Next Virginia entered a markedly different career phase when under funding from USAID she went to Ethiopia to establish a home economics program tar young women throughout the county She fulfilled that mission well teaching traveling and living in ' Ethiopia tar six years Then at the aga of 61 she returned to Logan and rather than resume her interrupted teaching career decided to join the business sector of the community by taking on the challenge of starting her own business She opened Travel Time a local travel agency on Feb 8 1975 and ran it successfully for nearly ' three decades before retiring recently at the age of 91 While Virginia's robust life had many facets there was one that was vital and omnipresent — ' her unendingdevotion to her son John Harder John and she shared many things: an appreciation for the science of choking maintaining active productive days and a fondness for fresh' flowers in the house Virginia also shared her many taients by her involvement in the community She had a particular interest in women's rights and engaged in activities to further women's position in the community Her involvement included the League of Women Voters the Clio Club and the American Association of University Women She was also active in spearheading a campaign on water rights Noted for her accomplishments Virginia was honored In 1987 as one of 10 "Outstanding Women Over 65 by Utah State University's Women's Center She was also honored in an earlier publication that highlighted her commitment to academic excelence her adventurous life and her entrepreneurial spirit Virginia is no longer here to 7 ' inspire yet her life’s values live on: the importance of meaningful work giving of oneself to help others and the wonders of
