Teacher for the nation during an assembly on Wednesday asked to write an essay about a teacher who has made learning fun for their child The 400 entries were submitted between June 1 and Aug IS and were judged mi originality enthusiasm and inspirational value Kristina Glaittli whose daughter was in Johnson’s class last year and the year before read about the contest in Rosie Magazine and decided to write about her daughter’s favorite teacher “He is such a creative teacher" said Glaittli "He integrates the curriculum which is one of the things that makes him unique" This year Johnson’s students have been involved with the American West Heritage Center as part of their In brief expe-rienc- es Johnson said teaching is fun for him because his students make it that way “The best part of teaching for me is the kids” he said "It's hilariously fun to be around them with all their energy and interest" The Nestle Ice Cream Company awarded Johnson a $1(NK) check and a “Very Best Teacher” plaque while Edith Bowen received a $5(XX) donation Johnson said part of the money awarded to the school will go into the Edith Bowen Endowment Fund and the other part will go to “buy some- thing nice
