some reason they have pulled the After School Program from Hill-cre- st which was difficult for those who relied on it As a working mom I am grateful for the addition of the Summer Program The staff works hard at providing an educational and fun schedule to keep the children busy but also learning and having fun at the same time Also for the past two years the Gub has had the Eccles Theatre involved letting the children create their own opera and present it on an opera night Boys and Girls Gub has been in the valley for several years and for some of those years they struggled with funding and identity but now they are doing very well and working hard at giving back to the community through the children The Gub is always doing some sort of activity to prepare the children to be responsible citizens The children are encouraged to express their interests likes and dislikes The programs help the children find where they belong and also encourages the children to learn to control negative behavin’ in productive ways I think we as a community should support and thank this great program that is helping our children be better people ana mem-bo- s of the community Team quilts of her own and was the Relief Society quilting chairman in the Lewiston Bell Perkins Her early life was spent in Preston where she attended school She is the oldest child of five children in the family In her teen years she was a very popular baby sitter mid housekeeper in her east side neighborhood Alice entered a contest to name a new dance hall in Preston and won with the name of Persianna Alice married Virgil Marler who passed away on Oct 10 1982 on Sept 23 1931 in die Logan Utah Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and moved eight miles to Lewiston Utah They had three boys Jene Virgil who passed away in December of 1990 Lyman A who lives in Kokomo Indiana and Nathan J from Dolan Springs Ariz 3rd ward for many years Other hobbies included 35 years of square dancing with her husband and friends in Cache Valley They made many trips to various parts of die inter mountain west including many trips to Yellowstone National Park over labor day to participate in square danting events She ate) loved to embroidery and crochet She was also an excellent seamstress and made many of her own clothes and shirts for her husband and boys Alice spent many hours serving in the church in various stake and ward callings In the late 1960s Alice and Virgil saved two short term missions for the church They were called to serve in ‘ St Thomas Ontario Canada first and the' next winter they went to Alexandria Louisiana During her latter years in Utah she went to the temple on a weekly basis with Orson and Pearl Hawkins to do temple work She was a big help to her husband on the farm after the boys grew up and moved on to make their livelihoods She drove trucks for peas comgrajn and beet harvests Alice also climbed up on the tractors against her will to
