accused of beating and dropping her stepdaughter on her head will stand trial on felony child abuse chaiges a judge niled offTues-da- y However no ruling has been made about whether she will stand trial on attempted homicide charges filed against her in the same case A preliminary hearing for Alyson Barfuss Johns 21 lasted about an hour before being postponed Tuesday to allow her attorney Dee William Smith time to file amotion arguing against binding her over for trial on two charges of attempted homicide Both are first-degree felony cases to determine if prosecutors have enough evidence to warrant a trial According to the Box Elder County Attorney’s Office Johns beat stepped on and dropped Graycee Auger causing injuries that' woe potentially fatal The alleged abuse occurred Feb 15 in Brigham City where Graycee was visiting Johns and her biological father Brigham City Police Investigator Jeff Johnson testified Tuesday that Johns hit Graycee in the face at the breakfast table for giving her a “fearless look” Johns tyer dropped Graycee on her hlad in the living room and after giving her a bath stepped on her stomach as she lay on the bathroom floor Johnson testified felonies Preliminary hearings are held in Graycee’s sister and stepbrother were in the house when the alleged abuse happened but were uninjured Johnson said Graycee was taken to Brigham City Hospital by her mother Lindsey and her stepfather Brian after Johns called them in Logan and complained that Graycee needed to be picked up because she was out of control Brigham City Police investigator Kurt Fertig who took photos and videotape of Graycee's injures at the hospital also testified Tuesday He said that Graycee had significant bruising around her left eye on her head spinal cord shoulders and neck He said she had also been bleeding from the mouth and had a contusion on the back of her head Graycee was transported to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt City on Feb 16 where she under went two stomach surgeries to repair damage to her duodenum Johnson testified that at least two doctors told him Graycee’s injuries woe “‘The injuries could have been fatal’ those were his (a doctor's) exact words” Johnson testified Fertig and another officer separately interviewed Lindsey and Brian Auger on Feb 1 5 at Brigham City Hospital he said “We heard nothing out of the interviews to determine the
