Show SautHUt 4 Student fashion Colobrato the arts a die Arts event will be held on Friday March 28 from 6 to 9 pm at the Bullen Center located at 43 S Main St and Mansion the Thatcher-Youn- g located directly behind the Bullen Center Admission is free The Alliance for the Varied Aits consists of several different departments that strive to provide educational opportunities in the areas of: visual arts ceramics photography dance drama and fiber aits During Celebrate the Arts all AVA departments will host activities geared toward but not limited to children Many of the activities are old favorites but some are new Some activities include painting on a mural making a fish print or a puppet in the visual arts room and making a clay pot in the ceramics room There will also be experimenting with digital photography and enjoying scenes from the Unicorn Theater’s spring production in the Pillow Theater Entertainment will be provided by local performers throughout the evening in the VA’s animal Celebrate carousel roam of die Bullen Center Watch die Valley " Dance Ensemble die 4-- H Latin Dance Group and Celtic Fire Irish Dance Itoupe while you enjoy delicious light refreshments Join in a dance with Celtic Fire as they teach traditional Irish dances to the audience after their performance The Thatcher-You-n g Mansion that night will also have live music from various local musicians such as Sarah Graves The gallery will also''” be hosting the National Women’s History Month Exhibition which will feature work by and about women The AVA's gift shop features the work of local artists and artisans including paintings items photography hand-kn- it beaded jewelry sculpture and much more Everyone is invited to support an AVA tradition and celebrate the many forms of art available in Cache Valley Celebrate the Arts is designed to educate but it also brings people together to share talents and enjoy each other’s company by students ' if o 4 fashion world is The competitive changing introducing new trends to the scene every season 0) This spring IS Utah State University u students are bringing their own line o u of clothing to the forefront of the local fashion scene combining music o and style for the 2003 “Fashion Out E Loud”show D o The show is March 28 in the USU Sunburst Lounge and is sponsored by 2' the Utah State Fashion Association a 2 club in the apparel and textiles major XD of the College of Business Both D showings held at 12:30 pm and 7 pm are free to students and the community The clothing included this year is designed and assembled D CD entirely by students as opposed to o past years where there was a mixture d and of clothing clothing borrowed from various retail 5 a i JI Ssi J ? i ' ift student-designe- ' y I ‘ J Children's activities are a big part of the annual event Musical mastery Makes the tour and is a member of the National Honor Society She has written poetry and has been published in a collection titled “A Celebration of Young Poets" Goodin is an llth-grastudent at Sky View High School where she has distinguished herself as a music student through her study of the violin She has participated in both region and state solo and ensemble festivals in Utah and was the first orchestra student from her school to ever receive a superior rating of “1” Two summers ago Goodin studied at the Utah State University summer music clinic and was later accepted to the Cache Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Bridgeriand Honor Orchestra This past fall she was the only string student from her school to be accepted into the Utah te orchestra Countless hours of study have gone into Goodin's musical accomplishments yet she has also maintained a strong academic grade point average de all-sta- D 5 Goodin’s attributes as a fine music student and representative of her com- munity have singled her out for an invitation to be a member of the 2003 United States Youth Ensembles European Concert Tour The US Youth Ensembles was founded in 1989 to emphasize the positive aspects of America’s youth and the achievements and dedication of outstanding music students The program is designed to enrich and expand the musical and cultural experience of its participants while showcasing the superb musical talent of students from across America to European audiences The chorale string ensemble and wind ensemble will perform seven concerts while touring Germany Austria Italy Switzerland France and The Netherlands To make a donation toward her European Tour Fund or become a sponsor contact her at Sky View High School Wins competition Brandon Lee of Logan Utah won a gold medal at the first Four Comers Piano Competition hosted by Fort Lewis College from Feb 28 through March2: Lee 16 won gold medals in the solo senior and concerto divisions “We are so fortunate to have had these unusually talented students come to Durango and perform in this competition” said Fort Lewis College President Robert Dolphin Jr The Four Corners Piano Competition featured junior high and high school pianists from Arizona Colorado New Mexico and Utah For winning the concerto division Lee received the Weaselskin Farm Gold Medal Award and a $1000 prize He performed Sergei Rachmaninov's “Concerto No 1 in F minor Op 1 : Vivace” in the concerto finals For winning the senior solo division Lee received the Terry Rickard Gold Medal Award and a $1000 prize He performed Liszt's ‘Tarantella” from Annbes de Pelerinage: Venezia e Napol stores “ “Each designer completes about 6 tolO outfits ’’ said Sharielle Sessions a student designer involved with the event “ The entire show revolves around music so you will hear everything from Frank Sinatra to techno” The theme for the show incorporating the influence of music on fashion ' is made apparent through 12 unique student-designe- d sets Each set coincides with different genres of music and gives the students a chance to display their visual merchandising skills The fashion show coordinators have put in extra work to get dona- tions and found ways to cut costs “All the students whether they are designers or not have put in countless hours to make this happen ’’ said Nicole Nielson academic advisor for all apparel and textiles students “A lot more work goes into the show than people realize Students are grouped into committees such as set lighting models public relations1 design and merchandising and every student plays an important role in the production of the show” The time and effort students put into the' show pays off They get experience in event planning on top of designing sets and clothing Nielsen said “As a graduate of Utah State fashion merchandising and design I understand what an educational experience the fashion show is ip students" said Nielson “It provides a chance for students to get hands-o- n experience they could never learn from a book” For more information on the fashion show contact Jeanine Owen at jowenccusuedu |
