Show W1 Uigan Utah Thunday March Ntrrid Journal— 17 Th 2 1978 Students win in PTA Reflection contest By Theoda Downs correspondent Touching other grasses to awaken them A sweet fragrance was in the air And the world was new Love is a happy family according to Michelle Briscoe of Providence who won first place in the intermediate division of the Reflections Contest with her drawing of a family parents and children To Pat Anderson love is became the theme for three songs she composed to win the first place in music “Thinking of Him" was her personal favorite The other two compositions were “When You Said Goodbye" and "Promise Me You'll Forget Me" To Kent James who was First place in literature at the Junior High level love is God’s gift of nature His words were very descriptive as he wrote of a rain storm "The rain settled to a drizzle and the horizon shuddered with gloom" Further in his selection he describes the end of the storm "The blanket tore and the light slithered in A new day was born The long grass bent with pride PAT ANDERSON right shows her musical score which won first place In the Reflection contest to Kent James and Michelle Briscoe Kent won first place In the junior again” These are only samples of the work done at elementary junior high and senior high schools in the Cache County PTA Reflections contest this year This contest is sponsored by local PTA's throughout the nation encouraging development of talents in the various arts All work must be original and done by the student It may be done at home or at school The school entries are judged by the local PTA and then the best of those are judged at district level After judging at district level the winners go to state and from their to national competion The best from the Cache County schools were on display at the Cache Valley Mall last week and ttirongs of parents and interested citizens enjoyed them and students were proud The winners in the county are as follows: Art — Intermediate division (4th to 6th grades) Michelle First Lisa Hyer second and Holly Third Primary division: Marjorie Westover First Lauri Huber second and Robert Roe Third literature — High School Crawford Cragun first Cindy Kay Salisbury second and Chris L Jorgensen Third Junior High Kent James First Lynne Bradford second and taura IJoyd Third Inter mediate: Sherri Morrell first Kent L Christensen second Tonya Griffin Third Primary division Kandra Kartchner first Gina Ann tawis second and Bonnie Israelsen Third Music — This field was narrowed to two entries from the High School level Pat Anderson of Wellsville placed 1st and Cindy Burt Eriscoe Pop-pleto- n of North Logan 2nd Mrs Elaine Andersen of North Logan served as Reflection chairman for the Cache County PTA She expressed appreciation for the interested pap ticipation in the contest this year and for the interest of the public Volunteers needed high literature competition and Michelle took first in art in the elementary school Intermediate division (Photo by Theoda Downs) The Girl Scouts of Cache County have reorganized under a new neighborhood chairman New leaders for all levels are now needed throughout the country Those who enjoy working with young girls and who have a few hours each week to devote to this program are needed No scouting experience is necessary Call Marie at for more information Will you share your home with a girl?
