Show The Herald Journal Logan Utah Sunday March 1999 — Page 27 21 Birthdays Paid announcements Janes’ 90th The family of Velma 0 Junes honored her at a family open house March 20 1999 on the occasion of her 9dh birthday Her family expresses their appreciation for her countless hours of service to them and respects the example she has set as a guide for their lives Velma was born on March 12 1909 in College Ward Utah She is the third child in a family of nine children three daughters and six sons Her parents were Eras-lu-s and Emma Olsen She has two sisters and one living brother Ethyl England Pocatello Idaho Mabel Olsen College Ward Utah and Dean Olsen Young Ward Velma O Janes Utah She married Eldon R Janes on Aug 18 1936 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple Eldon passed away May 19 1990 They lived all of their married lives in Providence Utah They operated a small fruit farm while Eldon worked at various occupations including serving as Providence City Postmaster for 25 years Velma worked for a number of years as a cook at the the family He was raised in Hyrum and has lived there all his life He served an LDS mission to the Western United States in 1928 After returning from his mission he married Ann Wallers Bair in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 29 1932 They built their home on 3rd South in Hyrum where Lowell still resides today Lowell and Ann served an LDS mission in Roanoke Virginia from 1975 to 1976 Ann passed away on May 29 1983 Throughout his life Lowell has been a farmer dairyman and well known cattle buyer He is an active member of the LDS church and has held many church positions over the years He worked in the Scouting program for over 40 years earning his Silver Beaver Award He has served on the Hyrum City Council and has remained active in civic affairs He helped bring the park and rodeo grounds to Hyrum Lowell and Ann are the parents Providence Elementary School She is a member of the LDS Church and has enjoyed various callings including President and Secretary of the Ward Relief Society and has taught in all the church auxiliaries Velma has been unselfish with her lime having spent many years in volunteer service at the Logan Hospital She served at the Logan LDSCcmple for ten years She is the mother of five sons and raised a nephew Lynn (Irma) Providence Utah Dale (Irene) Farmington Utah Dean (Linda) Logan Leona Moser Burton Utah Clare (deceased) Verl (D'on) Providence Utah and Kay Olsen Salt Lake City Utah She has 20 grandchildren and 14 greatgrandchildren grandchildren 15 great 14 1980 Leona has been an active Washington in 1982 Following her mission she moved to Spring Hollow in Logan where she still resides Leona is the mother of 10 children she has 58 grandchildren and 2 89 Her family held a luncheon on Saturday at Angie's restaurant in her honor Leona is a terrific woman dearly loved by all who know her Her friends and family wish her a happy birthday en at Ibetial dcoasfoir Thi family teen children Hd and his brother Clinton share a close relationship as the remaining two siblings of j mem- ber of the LDS church She served a mission in Spokane grand- children and 1 great-gregrandchild His family would like to invite all friends neighbors and relatives to an open house at the Hyrum Civic Center 83 W Main Hyrum on Saturday March 27th from 2 to 4 pnv tq celebrate this Andersen and Elsine Petrine no gift please Jensen He is the eleventh of six- - requests Turner’s 85th Selma Mockli Turner celebrated her 85th birthday yesterday with a surprise party given by her family i 1 Selma was born March 1914 in Preston Idaho to Leona Moser Burton celebrated 15 nary council president and as a member of the institute council and institute service committee Winward participated in a two-ye- ar mission to Arizona Scholarships are awarded to students based on academic Mathew Winward of Preston Utah is one of 20 students who have cystic fibrosis (CF) across the US to receive a Creon achievement financial need leadership qualities and ability to serve as a role model to others who have cystic fibrosis All high school vocational school and college students who have cystic fibrosis are eligible Applications are available at CF treatment cen- children (Pancreli-- p e e Capsules) Family Scholarship a Winward junior at Utah Slate University in Logan will receive $2000 per year for up to four years or until completion of his current degree This is the sixth year Solvay Pharmaceuti- ters each year from March Are Your Term Life limirenee Ratos Dm lowetf?
