December 1 J 1994 Associated Students of the of Lantern Utah Renee Presset has been instrumental in forming the student fee recommendation committee who determine how each student's $9050 in fees are spent each quarter "This is the first time (’Ll ' has ever had a student fees committee Other colleges and universities in the stale have student fee recommendit ion committees So it is really exciting that the administration is supportive ol the com- mittee” Presset said The committee's purpose is to provide students with a source for direct input as to how their student fees are being used The committee is also responsible for managing and reviewing how the income is spent The membership of (he student fee recommendations committee consists of: the ASCI-president vice president of academics and activities two students and other members of the ASCI I advisoiy council who are ap1 : pointed by the two people members include: the dean of student life ASCI ill secretary and Non-votin- co-cha- ir g The college will present "The Eccentricities of a Nightingale" as the second offfering of the 5 theater season Dec 13 at 7:30 pm in Geary Theatre The Tennessee Williams drama is a reworking of and earlier play "Summer and Smoke" which had been made into a movie 94-9- Page and Laurence Harvey The play focuses on the characher of Alma Winemiller daughter of an Episcopal minister her dysfunctional family and her thwarted love for the boy next door lized and how the organization functions In addition members will review promised increases and decreases in fees 1 by Kelly Carlson staff writer of the biggest health of our day is One About one million Americans are infected with HIV and over 2IX)(XX) have died from AIDS AIDS first hit the headlines in 10X1 when the first cases were reported By 1993 more than I70(XX) people had fallen to AIDS It is said that almost every person has been directly affected by or knows someone who has been affected by HIV It iA impossible to watch television today without seeing someone wearing a red ribbon Due to the rising number of cases and overwhelming public concern Thursday Dec I has been named World AIDS Awareness Day We arc now in the second decade of this epidemic and although homosexual males still account for the majority of reported AIDS cases it is no longer a “gay disease" AIDS is becoming more common in young heterosexual men and women Approximately one in 100 men are infected while one in XIX) women have contracted the disease In 1992 nine percent of total AIDS cases and 39 percent of reported cases in women were due to heterosexual contact This is an increase of nearly 42 percent from 1990 to 1992 AIDS has become one of the three main causes of death among individuals 23 to 44 years old in the US It is also among the top 0 causes of death in I to 4 year old children It is often believed that people who are infected with the HIV virus live in big cities However the number of
