Show Ths Eagls Paga 7 Thursday January 14 1993 CEU sweeps ASU tourney for third consecutive year For die third year in a row the College of Eastern Utah debate and forensics team has won the Junior Sweepstakes at the Arizona State University Forensic Fiesta held in Tcmpc CEU placed first with 94 points two schools from California tied for second with 65 points Palomar and Mt San Antonio CEU placed fourth in the overall competition against four-yeschools Air force was first with t IS points New Mexico University was second with 109 points and CEU's 94 points was next Twenty-fiv- e colleges and universities attended the throe-da- y meet In debate there were two divisions a senior and a junior so the CEU squad debated against other two-yeschools and the junior divifour-yesions of the schools Gilbert Archuleta and Ryan Ricd placed third losing to die eventual winners a junior team from the Air Force Academy Two teams tied for fourth place Mark Justice and Richard Blair and Tristy Atwood and Jory Johnson All of the CEU debate teams had winning records In individual events there was only a senior division CEU performed well against their more experienced opponents with many just missing the break rounds Aaron Southard won the fourth place trophy in After-dinnin imspeaking and Justice made it to the semi-finapromptu The CEU squad has had a successful fall season They attended seven tournaments won three trophies and 28 other awards' including three 1st place sweepstakes trophies and two 3rd places Now they start the next term with a new debate topic and tournaments that will culminate at the Intermountain Region III forensics finals in Casper Wyoming in March The Junior College Championships will follow in April in Odessa Texas ar — uJ 1 I Forensic students Gilbert Archuleta and Elisha Ray practice dally for upcoming forensic events (photo by Juotln Johnson) ar ar er ls If' Stacy Mantes a social science major transferred to Westminster from a large university She chose Westminster because it is a small college has a reputation for excellence and all of her transfer credits were accepted Stacy also found that Westminster tuition is very reasonable when compared to other private four-yea-r colleges Westminster College is the best choice for students who want the benefits of a quality private education so close to home Interested in transferring to Westminster?
