students who plan to attend four year colleges or universities the time is now to prepare to meet admission standards but beware the University of Utah has raised those standards yet again Several years ago when the U of U required increased math English and foreign language requirements several of Utah's other colleges and universities followed suit Once again the U of U has stepped forward to raise admission standards starting in 1991 Originally students with good grades but low ACT or SAT test scores and students with low grades but high test scores met the U of Us standards Under the new ruling which has both the Utah Board of Regents' and the Academic Senate's approval the U of U has compiled an average of the GPAs and test scores of currently enrolled students and established an index that all anticipating admission should meet An arbitrary index of 74 was chosen because a large number of admitted students who had the 74 index maintained a "CGPA U of U officials approved the index with the intention of raising the level in subsequent years It will be increased a point or two every year based on the previously admitted class performance and the quality of students applying to the U of U The reasons given for the increased standards is to ensure students have the knowledge they need to successfully handle the depth and demands of U of U courses According to Robert
