Show The Eagle - Pagt Thursday Fcbuary ( 1 1990 Stubborn TVCC falls to the Eagles By Dusty Nelman starr writer It's crunch-tim-e in Region 18 basketball and especially for teams like the CEU Eagles who are vying for a spot in the Region 18 playoffs This weekend the team laces Salt Lake Community College and Utah Valley Community College both of which are very important games in the Eagles' quest for a play-of- f spot The Eagles are 7 in conference play and are looking for these two games to boost them into play-of- f 2-- contention On Tuesday Jan 30 the Eagles faced Colorado Northwestern Community College in Rangely Colorado The Eagles suffered a heart breaking loss to the Trojans 4 to drop them to 7 in Region 18 play 2-- 77-7- This past weekend the Eagles game to dropped a 3 BYU by 11 points losing Jermaine llaliburlon and David Baldwin led all scorers with 13 apiece while Allen Spencer and Columbar Ball combined for 21 more points and 13 rebounds to help the Eagle cause ce 86-7- On January 19 the Eagles lookton the National Junior College Athletic Association's number ranked team the College of Southern Idaho and gave them all they could handle in an exciting The Eagles Region 18 match-u- p and came out hot jumped out to an early lead but CSI bounced back and managed to hold off the Eagles "We played hard but the mistakes down the stretch cost us the game" head coach Ronnie Stubbs commented The Eagles were again plagued by poor free throw shooting which to Stubbs is "sub par" The Eagles ended the game losing by 11 0 but the game was much closer than the final score told 91-8- Haliburlon again topped the Eagle scorers with 23 points while Baldwin pitched in 21 and Ball added 13 Baldwin also tore down 13 rebounds and Ball 9 against a much bigger CSI inside team On the following night the Eagles picked up a Region 18 win by defeating Treasure Valley 4 Community College Spencer paced the Eagle with 16 points while Baldwin dropped 13 more Once again Ball swept down the rebounds by grabbing 10 to lead the Eagles 63-6- Coach Stubbs said "They (TVCC) had a chance to win it but they failed to capitalize" The Eagles came out sluggsh and it proved to be nearly fatal as they slipped away with a one point victory The Eagles will resume home play Friday Feb 9 against Snow College and Sat Feb 10 against Dixie College in a weekend that might decide if the Eagles will n participate in any lllckmon editor sports The Lady Golden Eagles picked up their First conference win of the season against the Lady Chukars from Ontario Ore on Jan 20 but fell the night before to a tough College of Southern Idaho ball club In the battle of the Golden Eagles CEU wu hoping to come out the victor on their own home court but that wu not to happen CSI came out Firing right away and never seemed to miss a beat they went 6 on to a victory Barbara Skaggs played a tremendous game both offensively and defensively scoring 16 points along with 10 rebounds and Five blocked shots Teammates Rachael Chadwick and Allison Jackson both knocked in 10 points apiece in the losing cause The next night the Lady Eagles faced Treuure Valley Community u 68-3- iti post-seaso- Lady Eagles claim first conference win by Richard v Li College and picked up their first conference win with a 1 score bringing their overall record to 1 64-3- Jackson led the scoring for CEU with 21 points while teammate Pam Dupin scored 12 points and Tina Sperry put 1 1 points of her own she Skaggs continued to play well contributed 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds Jackson is fifth in the region in scoring with 136 points per game Teammate Dupin is fifth in the region in rebounding with nine a game while Skaggs is second in the region in blocked shots with 17 a u - f if ’: s'! r V - Ryan Laws (22) flnlshaa off the faatbreak but CEU couldn't hold off tha nations best In photo by Lonnie Behunin CSI CEU INTRAMURAL 1) WORD-U- P 2) JENERICS 3) BUCKETS It 2-- 0 2-- 0 2-- 0 t 4) CAGERS 5) BLUE BAYOU 0-- 2 2 6) EU HEAT game The Lady Eagles next games will be on the road this weekend against Utah Valley Community College and Salt Lake Community College Their next home action will be Feb 9 and 10 at 3:13 pjn against Snow College and Dixie College r 0-- 2 0-- 2 V V V V V V V V V V V V V V V 15 SPORTS!
