Show 2— CEU—Friday May 22 1981 OPINION track program faces dilemma CEU CEzoo: fact or fallacy By Karla Edmondson As I end my two years at CEU it is disappointing to look back and realize how much respect and pride is lacking in our school Even when I was attending Carbon High students and community members were calling CEU “CEzoo” It was almost embarrassing to admit you were going to attend CEU when others were going on to universities and other respected schools Sad part the name is still with us I think this could be a great college town if people would take interest in the college But anymore all the participation and spirit is left up to the students and now they are losing their interest Students nearly have to be begged to attend activities I guess we do good to attend class and get our homework done It is sad though dances are rarely attended concert audiences are small students have forgotten what a formal dance is and so on and so on I've attended some sports events where I thought a funeral service could probably be more exciting Most CEU fans are not loyal unlbs we are winning And what ever happened to rowdy cheering sections What about the good old rivalery tension between schools where people are excited about competition and spirit Instead the majority of CEU people are excited about where the next party ' By Mark Jones When Dixie and Snow College announced they would be dropping track it raised many quotions and complain about boring social lives They claim there is nothing to do in Price nor any activities scheduled that is worth their while At the same time you don’t see them trying to improve the situation Many of them can't wait for the weekend to get out of town instead of staying here enjoying and supporting some of the activities that are scheduled It is too bad that the college community and students are hung up on apathy People are also hung up on religious and racial prejudices drugs partying etc If people would start accepting others for who they are and not what they do the college community could have a great relationship The more labels that are stuck on people the further it draws them apart CEU is a beautiful campus with a lot of fun and exciting people Maybe in the future some of that fun and excitement will project through the school's image It is even possible the college will abandon the name “CEzoo” CEU is to be a place where friends come together Well if they are going to come together why not work together Work to improve the image of the college improve activities by attending them improve sports events by becoming a loyal CEU fan full of school spirit and enthusiasm I leave CEU hoping that it can regain its respect and school spirit And that the students and college community can work together to make Price and its college an exciting place to be is Students come from out of town to attend CEU for in Snow College program Most important would Ephraim attributed the there be a CEU track dropping of it’s track program If it does who program to a poor track will it compete with and Snow track coach how much mojiey will the Lance Reynolds said track program reeive? their track which was An athletic committee rubberized a few years comprised of faculty ago was beginning to administration and crack and slope in “With the pinch in state athletic representatives will decide the fate of the funds there is no way we can get the money to track program Bill Peterson tem- repair it” Reynolds said Because of the poor porary chairman of the Let's all do it together By Todd Gorishek elected ASCEU President Newly Involvement is the theme of our 1981-19college year at CEU It is based on this idea that we will meet the challenges placed in front Of us to create a growing expanding academic and social college life I see three major objectives which must be met in order to achieve this goal: student - faculty involvement upgrading of academics and community involvement The student body myself included have been very unsupportive of the activities which student government has sponsored this past year Rather than student government alone carrying the burden of a success or failure of an activity I feel the burden should be equally shared between student government and those students it relationship between the two groups will we be able to generate the interest involvement and enthusiasm to make most activities a success Faculty involvement will be absolutely imperative to help reach our goal as they are just as important growing part of CEU as are the students I want and encourage every faculty member to aid us in our task at hand in giving support and assistance in order to provide a well balanced academic and social life for the students I want to see faculty support forums and encourage the students to attend I also would like suggestions of speakers and topics which could be brought to the college to discuss relevant material related to the sciences humanities athletics and so 82 on Forums without faculty support lend to the idea that no one cares anyway so why should someone attend I feel it is the faculty's responsibility to provide the push or incentive to the students if it will expand their field of knowledge I want to begin class evaluations which reflect the students view of courses These evaluations will assist other students in choosing their classes Helpful information such as the number of hours of homework required and the degree of difficulty of the class will be provided It is obvious the results of these evaluations will bring forth strong and weak points of the class the teacher and the student but once recognized an effort can be made to correct problems and expand on successful methods which will only result in a higher quality of education offered at CEU It is necessary that we work with the community in our functions as a college This will enable us to let the community know we have something to offer them and they in turn will lend us their support With the support from members of this community new doors will open for CEU and those attending We will be able to take our activities off campus and pursue larger and greater endeavors I am excited and enthusiastic about working with the student government council and the student body of next year I encourage opinions suggestions and constructive criticisms throughout the year ahead in order that we may all work more effectively and efficiently and that we may all do it together represents One must realize the members of student government are few in comparison to those that comprise the student body Student government needs the support and manpower found in the student body while it in turn needs the leadership and guidance student government can provide I believe that with and only with a close working IRE E4GLE S54FF Karla Edmondson Shelly Babcock Jerry Hansen Lisa Glnes Joe Marrelll Todd Gorishek Blake Olsen Jackie O'Berto EDITOR Reporters Mark Sports Editor Sports Writer Photographer S Jones Monty Hope Scitt Wheeler Larry Severeld Susan A Polster Copy Advisor Advisor THE EAGLE The official student publication of the College of Eastern Utah Price Utah The Eagle Is dedicated to give information and service to the student body it represents The editorial opinions expressed In The Eagle do not necessarily reflect viewpoints of administration faculty student or staff track CEU’s Dixie athletic programs According to Allred Dixie would like to pick track up again in a few years if they can get money to support it a newly formed committee track Snow was unable said that they could not to host any home meets make any decisions until this season The traditional Snow they have heard from the administration College invitational for CEU President James high school athletics was Randolph had not had a also cancelled this year chance to look into the because of track matter but thought that problems The $3000 alloted to track should remain as a track will be distributed competitive CEU sport “Our track program is by percentages to a winning program It remaining Snow athletic would be a shame to drop programs Reynolds it when we have such a added He also stated that fine new track” Ranwould pick up track Snow said dolph The CEU track was again when the funds completed last year by a were available local firm H -
