Show 2— CEU— Tuesday March 8 " We're 1977 glad to know you" §0 what's HEW?? Strong vivacious with a flair for modern dance — The Eagle speaks this describes There is a strange and almost extinct animal at CEU This animal is a “student" There are lots of people attending classes and activities especially activities and being involved in every club and program they can but what the Eagle is concerned about is how many people are here to gain an education Many of the faculty members are also concerned about this matter It seems that teachers are feeling the need to have activities become second and the class work become first again One member of the faculty who talked to us feels that teachers are being forced to lower academic standards to make a course fit the students who are on excused absences or the ones who just aren’t ready to take a test so they don’t show or those who sleep through class Don Burge our Geology professor gave the midterm in r Introduction to Geology ten times The exam was a test so this means he spent 20 hours giving a midterm that could have been given in two Reasons for this were mainly excused absences for instance athletes both men and women were travding the Pep Squad and Blue Debs were following the teams the Pep Band also went Some students just didn’t show up Somehow it was contagious One student had a true emergency but that was only one out of ten The Eagle thinks the problem is where students are plating their values In order to be a good student and to achieve educational goals priorities have to be set This quarter many students have spread themselves so thin by being involved in everything that they don’t have time for classes activities are great don’t take us times wrong Many things can be learned at a program or a group that can’t be learned in a in from participating classroom But there has to be a balance with the emphasis on what all of us should be here for — our academic achievement Evaluate yourself and see if you fit into the category of the endangered species — “the student" If so the Eagle suggests you do something about it nineteen-year-ol- d Kathleen March Bout-we- ll so-call- ed two-hou- Extra-curricul- ar Editor rk Kathleen is currently training in the LPN course at CEU This young Sagittarian finds involvement and general concern for people while training to become a Licensed Practical Nurse in August Kathleen a enjoys challenge and has found me in nursing Her main goal- is to complete the nursing program so that she will be financially able to continue in her ultimate career in dance After graduation in August she plans to return to Salt Lake City to continue her dancing adventure Eventually this may lead her to San Francisco asa professional dancer She has already studied with teachers from Ballet West and has also developed many of her own - techniques Ml I 10 Contest nets $5 for David Pace David Pace informed us that Sybil McKinnon was the President’s secretary in 14-1- Mrs here The ST W Eagle Dear Sally: I live with another guy and I’ve tried in vain to get a private room in the dorm The problem is that I wtigh 300 pounds and it’s a bit crowded in here Don’t you think I should have my own room?
