Show GOLDEN EAGLE Page Two April 1 1988 Squawks and Chirps U::ce again there is a cry for HELP! Yes help I have heard complaints about this newspaper not being interesting enough Only those of you who complain have ideas that can change the news-- per :: a tides— well perhaps not change but you can add to the Gulden Eagle Those who don’t complain just sit back and let life a take its course Mure than advice we need those who will write and put their ad dee to work Articles and suggestions can be placed under the door of the newspaper office So that you can’t say “I don’t know where the newspaper offise is” here is a diagram Guest Editorial I Q vs I DO We are living in a world of magic a world where we need only to push a button and nearly everything jumps to our command Our world has always been a kind of magic place Men’s minds have concocted fantastic ways of acquiring wealth becoming famous or accomplishing feats far beyond the ordinary person’s ability It is i itcresting to look back on the magic world of those ancients who traveled on magic carpels used seven league boots rubbed magic lamps and planted magic beans But a look at the wcrld of today will convince almost anyone that we have surpassed even their wildest dreams We have a push button for almost communicaevery convenience in life Travl is unbelievably fast tion is instant and the world's greatest entertainment is as close as our TV or stereo set In this fantastic world of magic let us not become disullusioncd for there are some hings in life that cannot be acquired by the push of a button or by any other supernatural power No n'i has ever found an instant method of becoming a gtxxl musician Where is the button to push for flawless technique or the lump r 'c must rub to bring beautifully controlled tone quality or the initucle drug one can take to master musical interpretation The formula for becoming a musician is the same today as it has always bee-- : talert plus desire plus application Someone has aptly said that achievement comes not so much from IQ as “I DO” Nearly everyone agree that we should have a good band at CEU a land well prepared to perform at everything from parades to classical concerts Our band must be outstanding enough to attract students from far and near to attend the college below the big "E" There arc many students on the campus who have an instrumental background Many who have not seen fit to ally themselves with the dedicated few who are trying to produce the band described above Most of the excuses for not joining seem to be of a selfish nature Actually there are very few students at this college who absolutely cannot find time to rehearse and perform with the band Mary people are willing to get on the “bandwagon” after it is going but few are willing to push in order to get it started There is no magic in producing the kind of band we want at CEU It takes effort sacrifice and dedication from the students The director is not the band! There is no magic in his baton I It takes dcpcndanblc cooperative selfless college musicians How about it students?
