Show GOLDEN EAGLE Page Two March 8 1968 Library Corner Guest Editorial students should be aware that in order to graduate from the College of Eastern Utah they arc required to take activity classes in phsical education for 2 quarters plus general physical educaAll tion fur one quarter that Spring Quarter is about upon us I would like to take this opportunity to encourage students to think of taking ore of their activity classes in physical education in the field of swimming Spring Quarter is an ideal time to engage in ore of the courses offered in the aquatics area With the facilities of the brand new Youth Memorial Pool available to the college only a (half bock from the campus this affords students an ideal situation for this field of activity and instruction This Spring Quarter we are offering 3 courses One is Elementary Swimming for Women Another is Advanced Swimming for Men or Women and the third is Life Saving and Water Safety The latter will follow the Senior Life Saving requirements of the American Red Cross and those students who successfully complete the course will earn their rating in Senior Life Saving This is not only valuable in that it prepares individuals for emergencies concerned with accidents around waterfront areas but in addition can result in employment by pools camps beaches etc A number of the students who have completed this course in the past are now working in various parts of the state earning good money part-tim- e to aid them in finishing their college education After checking with physical educaton departments of some of the major colleges and universities in the state I find that they all strongy urge students to take at least one course in swimming or be able to pass an elementary type swimming test in order to graduate Ernest C Hartmann Now From the desk of the dean I want to take this opportunity to give congratuations to the and faculty so worked townspeople who sucvery hard to make a great cess of "The Music Man" production This is another example or what can be accomplished if people cooperate in a concerted effort to produce a program of which they can be only proud The standing-roocrowds that attended each night of the performance attest to this Each participant also seemed to find a certain feeling of joy and accomplishment in practicing in rehearsing in performing and in just plain The latter was especially dewarding to me I also want to congratulate the coaches team "Blue Debs" pep squad and pep band for a very successful basketball season and one for which we all can be proud The team played many students Ernest Hartman m Fees payable at treasurer's office The Treasurer's office will receive payment of fees for spring "friend-shippin- quarter starting Wcdncsd a y The office will accept fees from 9:03 am to 3:00 pm each ool day until the end of sch- the quarter Following is the fee schedule: Tuition— resident $8200: nonresident $10400 Student Ileal-t- h resident Fee (Optional) $550 $550 g" well and showed good sportsmanship in both winning and losing Thev all brought a lot of honor to CEU Again I commend and thank all who participated non-reside- nt All fees for the quarter must be paid before registration materials will bo issued Dean Selman Why spend all your hard earned money for magazines when the C E U Library will let you read them at no cost? Well the library has something for you anyway The married girl or the ore looking forward to marriage (and what girl isn't?) would enjoy reading The Bride's Magazine and Modern Bride Modern Bride deals with wedding dresses home furnishings and travel For those who are interested in becoming more beautiful American Hairdresser Glamour Make Up and Your Figure can offer helpful suggestions are sure to find Boys some- thing they would like to read American Rifleman Radio Electronics and Motor Age to mention only a few can be found in the library Motor Age is read by independent car dealers repair shop owners and service station owners It contains articles on merchandising activities successful selling and new selling plans Hobbies and major fields are also covered by magazines rt Ca-me- Music Journal SwimWorld Science Business ming Week and American Artist give 35 only a glimpse of what is available In addition to recent issues of the library has magazines many bound volumes of the older magazines Time for instance dates back to 1938 and National Geographic is complete from 1934 There are many volumes cf Arizona Highways which have been presented to the library as a gift by Mrs A D Keller This magazine is full of photographs of the beautiful Arizona country Many of these photographs were taken by a man from Utah Mr Fairbanks art instructor at CEU said "I have always enjoyed this magazine because the photographs are of artistic value and they are worth looking at" One of the finest magazines available through our library is Theatre Arts It contains com- Jeanselme's Super Market 45 South 3rd East AWS President president is highlighted AWS President is a major position in the student governing body of CEU Judy Spencer fills this position well Judy has lived in Price all her ife She is a graduate of Carbon High School and she is now a sophomore at CEU Last year Judy was also an AWS officer— Vice President Judy took over the presidency when the president got married One of the major duties of the AWS is building the float that the queen rides at Homecoming The most important event is the Preference Ball sponsored by the AWS When funds allow the AWS sponsors such activities as the basketball banquet last year for all the basketball players Working with the Executive Council on student activities is another integral part of AWS activities Besides AWS activities and school work Judy is a member of the Blue Debs and the choir Judy was also a member of the dance cast in the recent production of "The Music col-le- Man" AWS ge Judy has proved that an active person can also be scrupulous about appearance Judy was the first coed spotlighted in s "The Golden Eagle’s" wear weekly Judy’s hobbies include traveling sports and dancing Judy’s immediate future plans include either working in the administration offices at C EU this summer or traveling to Hawaii More distant plans include continuing her education at either the University of Idaho at Moscow or Utah State University Her major at the present is special education: After graduating Judy intends devoting her time to teaching retarded children As might be apparent Judy "I changes her mind often have an innate ability to change my mind often” Judy has some advice for C EU students “ want to encourage students to participate in all activities at a small school People don’t appreciate the opportunities here until they go co-ed- away" plete manuscripts of plays photographs of the actual performance of the play and articles about the people and theaters on Broadway This collection from 1942 to 1963 is especially valuable because it is no longer being published Does all this sound interesting?
