' desk in the student lounge and in the science building In or- Pamela L Y Chung Scott G Halverson Vivian R Romero der to attend hn Aarr Nancy B Ruf Advertising Manager Tom Jones Photographer Wilma A Johansen Nancy Ruf Lee Pirrus Reporters C Linda Sims Val D Crawford and Barry Platow Dennis Bale Typist Guest Editorial Year Greeting— a bit belated perhaps but sincerely extended as 1968 gets under way and the new quarter bc-nape I'm sure each one of us feels a new surge of the at optimism beginning of a new year and resolutions even those o ly briefly refresh us and revive a zest for living and doing kept The resolutions most of us commonly make arc to spend less to lose or gain weight to study more to better o:anize our time to seek new friends to stop smoking to read jnore books etc These are fine and if we break them they are perfectly lovely ones for another year But if I may I would like to suggest la resolution for all of us which if followed through cannot help but a bt more interesting and worthwhile nu It is not specific like studying more or reading books but if we make and keep it studying and reading will be easier Actually it is a state of mind— “I resolve to be keenly and enthusiastically alive every minute of my waking time— aware that today is tomorrow’s history and I am a vital part of it" We should be eager to learn here participate and be loyal advocates of this college because we are part of its history we should be helpful and active in the community the history of which we are making we should :tic a d concerned with the welfare of our country whose Iv ' history is an immediate process and we should make the most of our own attributes and potential because each of us is the main character in our autobiography A resolution of this nature has many fringe benefits some of which are: liking ourselves better understanding others accepting responsibility making good use of time and even having more fun g In his latest book "Enthusiasm Makes the Difference" Norman Vincent Peale writes: "There are quite a few category who arc neither hot nor people in the ‘couldn’t-carc-lcscold If we can help reduce the number of lethargic people and bring even a few of them into the creative enthusiastic class not only will they get more out of life personally but the world itself will be improved" So A Happy — Enthusiastic — New Year to all of you — may it be one of your very best!
