education and international service: the Joint Peace CorpsCollcge Degree Program which should be of interest to your reading constituency Enclosed is a news release which briefly describes this unique opportunity available to prospective mathematics and science majors who will be completing their Sophomore or Junior year this June We hope that you will find this item newsworthy and deem it appropriate for publication Of course it is understood that you would exercise your editorial “rewrite” prerogative Ordinarily we would not regard curriculum developments at our school as "hot news” for your reading public However because of the widespread interest in the Peace Corps and because this program is the first to build the Peace Corps experience directly into an undergraduate and graduate curriculum we believe there are students on your campus who would like to know about this possibility If anyone desires more information about this program they should call or write: Dr John created a creditability gap in the Education of the total man The industrial changes in civilized countries have resulted in a people who work with their minds but inhabit bodies which were forged by nature to do physical work The disuse and lack of respect of mans physical growth could soon be the down fall of the mental processes There must be a balance between a person’s physical and mental development As a physical educator I am greatly concerned with the lack of physical fitness in the youth of today True we have seen in the past few years some of the greatest athletic endeavors the world has ever known but for each superb athletic performance there arc thousands of young people whose bodies arc slowly detriorlating from lack of use I plead with all college students to recognize the value of a healthy body and to attain and maintain physical fitness “The cultivation of the mind alone Is destructive of the body” In the past only the fittest survived This might soon hold true
