It will be a heavy one as I hope to turn out a good paper next year I will Editor-in-Chi- ef “To turn out a good paper not only requires my hard work but the work of my staff The newspaper staff is always open to anyone who wants to put out a newspaper “In turning out our paper if you as a reader have not been satisfied with the content it is your duty to help advise us as to what you want Otherwise — don't complain!” P L Y P C Much is made of the American turn for active doing Commercial enterprise the mass media parents and peers constantly urges us to join our fellows in seeing America in living comfortably in “caning alive” and a myrid of other “do” oriented activities Paradoxically much of this urging be it commercial or otherwise actually proffers services or goods by which needs are easily gratified with a minimum of the exhilareting involvement of doing for ones self Students at CEU and elsewhere find an unusuall opportunity to do But on the other hand as new buildings rise active student leaders stake out extracurricular activities and Professors explain there is also real opportunity to become little more than passive recipients thus missing the main chance of education — namely that of doing Whether student experience at CEU is primarily a matter of excited doing or of bored hum drum depends in large measure on individual initiative Campus doing is of varied sort but may he reduced to three major forms involmcnt in which promises a worthwhile year In the first place is the doing of ideas Study beyond the narrow limits of high school acquaintance with ideas broad reading and broad thinking all involves doing of a highly personal and satisfying sort Secondly is the doing of broadened social horizons Friends from Japan New England up state or Biknell provide an opportunity for app'ication of old social skills in new doing Finally in participation in extracurricular activities lies the full scape from the hum drum of provided but already too of repeated services tier's to a year of fresh doing at CEU DR CHARLES PETERSON This informal group enjoys the Indian Summer on the front lawn during the faculty smorgasbord Hail!
