College Recently the freshman class officers spent several hours making “Gibby" presentable to the public No sooner was their deed finished than others became Involved in ‘Gib's" appearance n College students are for some of their pranks but there is a limit to everything We hope that this was not an act by "Gibby" well-know- college students But if so we feel rather sorry for those who resort to such Juvenile behavior Debate Squad Shines At Western Meet The Carbon College Forensic Squad participated in the Western Speech Association Speech Tournament at Pocatello Idaho during the Thanksgiving weekend Fifty-fou- r and universities colleges from the Western States entered their ten best forensic students to compete in the areas of debate extemporaneous interpretations speaking and impromptu speaking Carbon was represented by six students : Tom Longhurst Marilyn Hinkins Paula Butler Georgia Jerant Marion Burdick and Tim Alexander Half of Carbon's squad particievents pated in the The Eagles of Carbon College are bracing this week for the most ambitious series of basketball games to date in the young casaba season They host Northwest Community College of Powell Wyoming then tonight and Friday night travel to Salt Lake City Saturday for an encounter with the University of Utah freshman team The Eagles are now 2 for the season after picking up a pair of wins last weekend at Rangley 7 and 2 All three games this week are expected to be toughies according to Coach Curt Jenson Reports about the Wyoming club are meager but most of the information about the team indicates it is a traditional power in Its conference with this year’s group no exception They are expected to give the Eagles a good tussle with the home court advantage hopefully a break for Carbon The Utah freshmen can't be counted on to be at all charitable toward their ‘young brothers" and the Eagles will have to be at their very best to edge the Ute "greenies" The Eagles however are perhaps beginning to hit their stride considering their recent performances Bolstered by the return of pivot man Ron Cunningham they never were headed in the opening game in Rangley piling up a half time 3 and then advantage of for in their first win coasting Cunningham sparked the Eagle attack defensively by blocking a number of shots and pulling down 19 rebounds lie also scored 12 points Wilson Watkins was the big offensive gun hitting 24 ponts and gaining honors as high point man for the season for Carbon Others chipping in for their share of the win were Vince Colbert with 17 Don Denson 9 Jumbo Ellington
