Luther Stewart Edith All ret Printed by the Sun-Advoc- ate Decision Pending By Luther Stewar After extensive research on the subject of College Placement the Utah Coordinating Council of Higher Education has opposed the building of a junior college at Roosevelt The council disclosed that Roosevelt could not possibly attain e students per quarter With the minimum requirement of 400 the limited enrollment that the Uintah Basin could furnish from that area a college could not function Nor would it be probably that is could obtain good instructors under those conditions full-tim- This decision could be of great benefit to Carbon College pending the decision of the State Legislature which will make the final analysis With the available facilities at Carbon t could adequately handle 700 students per quarter at no additional expense Past enrollments has never exceeded 450 students The 'Roosevelt proposal if it should be approved by the State Legislature would greatly endanger the continued existence of Carbon College since it would naturally draw some students from the eastern Utah areas 9 Cultural Offering Appreciated By Bessie Miller Carbon College studentbody proved that a love for cultural offerings Is increasing as shown by the splendid conduct and attitude at the recent Theodore Ullman concert Those attending sat In hushed quiet and at the conclusion the ovation was tremendous Students are to be commended for the respect which was shown to this artist It left no doubt in Mr Ullman's mind that his efforts Elmo Geary has left Carbon College He dipped quietly from this busy world last Friday afternoon He had suffered from a prolonged illness from which death offered a merciful release Speakers eulogized Mr Geary in a beautiful funeral service They said that his life was a source of beinspiration to his cause of his dedication to his work that he accomplished Ms purposes through blood sweat work and tears He was a man who preached his sermons through examplp In appreciation of his good work a tangible monument was named in his honor — the new Geary Theater at Carbon College Other monuments to his memory are his students friends and associates' each of whose life he has touched they stated Intellectually he was superior — a planner and thinker who knew what to do at the right time All of these things are true but words are transient things Sometimes they are quickly forgotten William Shakespeare stated that “The evil men do lives after them but the good is oft interred with their bones” Words may be forgotten in Elmo Geary's case but he has reached a higher realm He exists now in the hearts of his fellow teachers and students He has become a symbol — a tradition at Carbon College Elmo Geary will never die mild-manner- — Jim Bowns Gary
