that this year is an opportune time to select new administrators for both schools this year Dr Jones entered Carbon College as an instructor in September 1939 In 1914 he was made president of the college and principal of the Carbon high school replacing President Eldon B Sessions and Principal Melvin Wilson Since Carbon high school and Carbon College will be separated at President Jones was graduated from the University of Utah with a BS degree in 1923 from the Utah State Agricultural College with a master’s degree in 1929 and from the University of California at Berkeley with a doctor of education degree in 1938 He also attended Brigham Young and Stanford universities He will have been engaged in educational work 47 years at the end of the present school year These positions were as follow: school Principal of a Coalville Utah 1911-1- 2 principal of school at Syracuse Utah 1912-1- 3 principal of Overton Nevada school 1914-1- 5 principal of elementary school West Bountiful 1915-1- 7 principal of elementary Dr Aaron E Jones of Carbon College since 1944 an nounces his decision to retire from his position at the end of June of two-teach- er school Moab Utah 1917-1- 8 prin- cipal of Grand county high school 1918-2- 0 principal Moapa Valley high school Overton Nevada 1920-2- 4 principal of LDS Seminary Salina Utah 1924-2- 5 teacher LDS Seminary Logan Utah 1925-2- 6 Carbon High School 1944-5- 9 Thirty-seve- n of those years have been in the public schools of Utah Provo To Host Debate Tournament Provo High School will host the annual Regional Debate Meet on March 10 Last year the contest was held at Orem High School when all the high schools in region five participated and the daylong activities Included besides debate oratory extemporaneous speaking and lcgislattive forum This year debate will be the only activity of the tournament Contests in the other categories will be held later at Carbon High School at the regional meet This change was made to prevent conflicts which had previously occurred will debate The participants Bands Present Concert Orem Plays ‘Concerto’ Following the solo and ensemble festival last Thursday the Orem High School Band and the Carbon Cbllcge and High School Band presented a public concert at the Price Municipal Auditorium Wes Barry director of the Orem Band led his players in selections from “Around the World in 80 Days” Young “Royal Handel “Triumphant March” from Qdo Vadis by Rozsa and the Grieg “Piano Concerto” This last number Is an unusually difficult one to be performed by a high school band The Carbon Band under the direction of Alvin Wardlc presented “Elmira Concert March" by Abbott “Allegretto” from Symphony No 3 by Schubert 'Tamerlane” by Frank Erickson and the “Poet and Peasant Overture” by von Suppc In addition to these organisations soloists and ensembles from Provo Orem Spanish Fork Springville Payson and Carbon Fire-word- s” rounds before any elimination takes place After the eliminations the remainder erf the teams will debate to determine who will attend the state meet Only eight debate teams are allowed to go to the state meet from region five and only four from one school Schools included are Payson Orem Provo Spanish Fork A numCarbon and Springville ber of points are given to each debate team during a debate How well a team performs determines how many points they will receive At the end of the contest the school with the highest number of points wins the regional contest and receives a trophy Nine Carbon teams entering the regional meet are as follows: a college qualification test to eligible students It will be given April 30 1959 Any students interested in this test should apply at once to the nearest selective service local board for an application and bulletin of information The application must be filled out and mailed immediately to the Selective Service Examining Section Educational Testing Service P O Box 586 Princeton New Jersey before midnight April 9 1959 The test will be to the students’ advantage If he files his application at once The results of this test will be reported to the local selective service board for roles are ht Carbon College Players Present Drama First Showing Tomorrow The Carbon College Dramatic Department under the direction of Elmo Geary has announced the dates of its major theatrical production of the year The play "ALL MY SONS” will be presented for the public at the Little Theatre on the college campus in Price on March 11 12 13 18 and 19 “ALL MY SONS” is a modem American tragedy Its plot is filled with suspense and excitement Arthur Miller the author won the Pulitzer Prize for his play “Death of a Salesman" Elmer Hamilton an and currently a sophmorc student at Carbon College plays the major role of the production dynamic “Joe Keller” Before Joining the Carbon College theatre group Mr Hamilton participated in three years of summer stock in Pennsylvania where he appeared in such productions as “MR ROBERTS” and “STALAG 17" Linda Tucker an active dramatic student throughout high school is playing the part of “Mrs Keller” The idealistic son of the Kellers is portrayed by Chuck Menzics Brenda Migliaccio and Tom Platis play brother and sister roles as Ann and George Dccv-e-r James Pappas and Leah Jcssen appear as husband and wife Dr and Mrs Jim Bayliss Larry and Joyce Bendctti represent Frank and Lydia Lubcy Sue Piacitelli is assisting as student director and Darlene Ennis is preparing the musical score to serve as background for the Gon-sows- ky drama “ALL MY SONS” is rated as one of the finest tragedies of recent years The plot deals with the deterioration of two American families resulting from a profiteering scandal during World War II $100 and the state award of $200 Sandra was Judged on a personality basis at an interview given by a committee headed by Mrs Helen Smith Price Additional information was supplied by an application blank and a photostatic copy of her grades from the eighth grade to and including the twelfth The scholarship may be used at any school of nursing in the state Sandra plans to go to Holy Cross
