I dashed out of dass only to get caught in the middle of a swarm of girls These fifty girls members of a club had tried to get into one of the roans and had failed to make it Now they had decided to gather in bunches In the hall so no one could get through I battled my way through the group and headed for the stairs Head for the stairs? Yes down you go head first That isn't really bad but going up again is another matter I start up the stairs This time I don't go on my own steam I am carried up the stairs and pushed down thehalL I grab the water fountain so that I don't go any further and then the bell for 4th period rings Oh well I didn't want to eat lunch anyway! Chances are you have: her name is Karo Lee Robinson “KO" as her friends call her is a freshman and a member of the Pi Gams and Eagelettes After school she works as Mr Cox’s secretary Jerry Gordon one of the juniors is now a familiar face in our halls Jerry played football and vice-preside- Tribute nt is on the Junior Varsity basketball squad He hails from Helper where last year he was student-bod- y president of Helper Junior High Call “Pat" down the hall and you'll probably hear three replies from Pat O'Brien Pat Hyita and Pat Arambula All three lasses are seniors who call East Carbon home Pat 0 has a sweet smile and friendly “hi" for everyone Pat H is trying to let her hair grow and also get along with her twin brother Pete Pat A is the cute girl you see laughing at Frank Petemell's jokes Sophomore Leon Odendahl is en- joying his final year at Carbon He is interested in finding someone to do his calculus If you see a pleasant-faced blond-head- ed boy walk ing down the hall c cuius book you'll to Carbon Students By DICK JUDD When Dr Jones decides to let the students go to a production such as the ‘Teahouse of the August Moon" he does it with a feeling that it will be well received and that it in some way may help the people who attend Carbon students proved the idea to be true in Friday's presentation of the (day Teachers were enthusiastic in their praises of the student audience Mr Ted Warner who attended Friday's performance stated "Friday's group was a much warmer audience While the audiences of the previous nights let jokes slip by them the students Friday did not" He also stated that the students conducted themselves very well Mr Cromar who also attended said "Hie play was very well received by the students There was very little moving around when it was done it was done at the right times" It is a tribute to our school to have students participate in a manner that commends our school so well to the public Safety Conscious Teen By MARY JEAN PEACOCK In Carbon and Emery Counties there are at least 5000 cars Each car owner pays one dollar car tax Where does this money go? It goes to pay for the education of students who have the opportunity to take drivers' training courses Almost every high school upstate has a drivers' training course which we help to pay for would become safety By having a course such as this teen-ageconscious By becoming more safety conscious the accident rate among the teens would drop the number of tickets and fines would be reduced Let’s do something about getting a drivers' training course for the students of Carbon High School There is no question that this program would be supported by anyone who could help in any way rs “Teahouse of the August Moon" Commended For Performances 'Teahouse of the August Moon" presented on February 12 13 and a successful venture of Carbon College and as favorable publicity for the school Mr Elmo Geary director of the production was pleased with the support given him and the cast during the play and for the support of students and townspeople as audiences 14 was commended ns “Los Diabios Pobres" Organized at Carbon All right admit you don't know what “Los Diabols Pobres" means Don't ask your pal because chances are he doesn't know either Can you guess the meaning? I know you'll never guess it's meaning so I'll tell you Los Diabios Pobres is the name of the newly organized Spanish Club I know now you'll say you didn’t even know there were any Spanish classes!!! I eat my spinach right along with the rest of the dan but still I stay the very same height National Merit Scholarship Offered Of interest to every college-boun- d high school student is the announcement of the qualifications for a new kind of scholarship designed by the National Scholarship Corporation of Evanston Illinois This scholarship was devised to permit students with scientific aptitudes the opportunity to attend college by giving financial aid Administering the nations largest Independently supported college scholarship program for high school students this organization during the 1957 and 1958 academic year provided more than $500-00- 0 worth of scholarships This program embracing all of the United States and its possessions sends thousands of deserving students to college each year All students will receive a report of their scores which will enable them to understand their academic strengths and weaknesses and will assist them in choosing their course of study for the next year All students who are in their second semester junior year or first semester senior year arc eligible to take the test A charge of $100 per student payable on registration day In the event of a financial hardship a limited number of students will be tested free of charge Students should see their principals concerning this matter Students are urged to register promptly at the office of the Oh me!
