Show Volume No 21 CARBON COLLEGE PRICE UTAH FRIDAY FEBRUARY 10 1956 Number 13 Advantages of Major Stage Production ‘Oklahoma’ to be A Junior College Presented Wednesday Thursday Nights by LaRENE PETESEN Many students in planning their college careers overlook the advantages that can be theirs by attending a junior college such as Carbon One of the chief considerations to most potential college students is their finances One of the chief assets of a small local college is the low cost One can save board and room by living at home Furthermore the tuition of a two-yecollege is as a rule lower than that of the larger universities There are many other distinct advantages One of these is the individual attention received in the smaller classes of a college such as Carbon One's identity is likely to be lost in the masses of students in a four-yecollege One becomes only a member How can an instructor tprovide the attention a student so vitally needs when each of his classes consists of from 100 to 200 people? The mother of one of Carbon's recent graduates stated that her son had gained through attending Carbon where he had a chance to participate in activities Had he gone to a larger college she felt sure that his chances to participate would have been lost to the more assured students Now that he has had the experience he gained in participation in Carbon's activities he is sure enough of himself to go on and make a good showing at a large university Another consideration is that in some of the universities ofte must copipcto with persons who arc dowork In classes ing that arc taken to fill group requirements a person finds classmates that are majoring in that field I low can Information be gleaned from a class in which the level of teaching must be directed and specialist at workers?
