Time is drawing near for the annual "Sweetheart Ball" According to Block C President Chuck Bikakis the date set is February 11 and plans arc already in prugress Sweetheart candidates will soon be chosen from the classes and clubs Jimmy Dart’s orchestra will furnish music for this affair Elks Foster Leadership Contest The Utah Elks in conjunction with the Elks National Foundation are sponsoring a Youth Leadership contest for high school and college students under 19 years of age Selections will be made by local lodges and from these state winners will be chosen Judging will be based on the requirements of leadership citiperserver-anc- c zenship appreciation and resourcefulness and honor Awards will be made on a national level and in addition the Price Lodge No 1550 will offer awards to local winners Full details on this contest are posted in Ihe lower halls of the administration building Those interested may consult Dr Jones or Mr Merrill for additional information and entry blanks Carbon Capers By “POLLY” Tomorrow'— 8:13 am — “News and Views" with Bill Mathis Tomorrow— 10 :30 — “Carbon College Presents" January 27 — Polio Benefit — “Charley’s Aunt" Janunry 28— Junior Assembly Dr Aaron Jones’ plans for a d larger campus have been materializing this week in Ihe form of bills for a new auditorium a modern men’s dormitory uml a larger gymnasium Two bills were placed before the state legislature Monday calling fur state funds to build a modern men’s housing unit and to complete the auditorium which has been on paper for over two years The first proposal House Bill No IS would empower the state board of education to borrow money from the Federal Housing Agency to build a men’s dormitory It be on northwould constructed the west corner of the campus next to the field house Completely modern and attractive it would have 16 apartments each cqupi-pe- d to accomodate four men A similar structure was recently completed at College of Southern Utah House Bill 49 would gain an allot ment of $230 (XX) to be spent in completion of the proposed Placed west of the auditorium administration building the auditorium would he used for all assemblies ami some social functions of the school It would eliminate the necessity of sending the student body to the Civic Auditorium for school programs The local unit of the National Guard is completing plans to build an armory near the campus With sume alteration and financial aid from the state it may serve a dual purpose as a gymnasium for the school Equipped with wood Mooring and bleachers it would seat nearly 2000 people According to Dr Jones such a structure has been list'd successfully by schools in cooiieration with guard units Competitive would become a part df the campus fronting on Fourth North street A $250000 appropriation is being sought from the legislature for this structure This Is one of three buildings planned in the campus improvement program - - |
