Show THE CARBONICLE CARBON COLLEGE VOLUME 19 SERVICE TESTS COMING UP Belgian Educator Seeks Attention is once again called to I he coming service qualification tests Word from the office of Major General Iewis Ilershey director of Selective Service is to the effort that examinations vill be held Thursday November 19 and Thursday April 22 1954 Applicants for the tests must mail applications to the Educational Testing Service in envelopes obtained from local draft boards To be eligible a student must: (1) intend to request deferment as a student: (2) be satisfactorily e course of inpursuing a struction and (3) must not previously have taken the test The present criteria for defer-nci- u as an undergraduate student are either a satisfactory score (70) on the test or specified rank among the male members of the class (upper half of freshman of sophoclass upper more class) American Citizenship The reason for the French influence at Carbon this year is Mr Marcel Delchambre who was born in Brussels Belgium Mr Delchambre teaches French Spanish and English at Carbon He came to America because of a girl he met in Belgium while on duty with the Belgian army Donna was there with the U S WACs Donna was eventually transferred back to the United States and when Mr Delchambre got out of the army he too came to America He came to Utah because that is where Donna lived Now he is married to her and they live on First East Street in Price Mr Delchambre stated that he is going to become a citizen of the United States as soon as the papers are completed He has been here since the winter of 1949 When asked how he likes Utah he said “Never before have I seen a friendlier state Utah greets you tries to help you all the time" He added that when we send movies to other countries we give them the wrong impression of us “All you see is Indians and pin-u- p girls America is not like that" He says he likes French girls better than those in America but of course he likes his wife He stated “Love is America is different from that in France In France if a fellow takes an inkling to kiss a girl on the street he does it In America the people hold their love inside themse' vs” Mr Delchambre enjoys leaching at Carbon He doesn't know everything about the routine yet but he likes the faculty and students He mentioned that he was the campus is surprised how-large self-ad-dress- ed full-tim- two-thir- Mrs Lyle tamph R N teacher of nurses' aids was hit by a car last Saturday while crossing the pedestrian lane between Cornet's and Oliveto's Struck by the right end of the bumper she was thrown to the pavement Though momentarily dazed she was able to continue on her own power r A medical report showed that nothing serious happened though Mrs Iamph does have a sore spot on her right leg It is not known who was the driver of the car ds Tune In On Carbon On Saturday mornings at 10:30 sure to turn your radio dial to Station KOAL (as if you could get anything else) and you may be surprised to hear your own voice coming over the air This is due to the fact that Mr Melvin Orgill and Mr Elmo Gear)' have been recording special num- bers by the Mixed Chorus and the Girls' Glee Gub This makes it a “must" for ev- cryone to listen in be : I i Number 5 Freshman Initiation Held wasn't hard to pick out the college freshmen on Wednesday all you had to look for was a I ! green foot!
