Show Volume 1G Carbon College Price Utah Friday September 15 1950 Dr Jones Extends Greetings Number 1 iSchool Opens Again j Dr A E Jones president ofj the college offers a welcome to all at Carbon Through the col-- ! umns of the Carbonicle he sends' the following greeting “Once again it is my privilege to greet the faculty and students of Carbon College a privilege that has never been more sincerely appreciated than now It makes me very happy to see you all and to realize the tremendous potential ties you bring for the development rf the school the state and the nation “During war years which unfortunately have been forced upon our beloved land the future of educational institutions is uncertain I am sure that every college and university In this country will be willing and anxious to serve in every way it can “Carbon College stands ready to make its facilities available for any need our nation may have We are well equipped to train men in several basic skills just as we did during the last war when our shops had classes the full hours of the day twenty-foWe know also that the training in the sciences and arts which is given in our various classes will be of great value to our students in equipping them to better serve the welafre of our country" Dr Jones is extremely hopeful that the school in all its departments publications and represen- (Continued on Page Two) ur CARBON COLLEGE PRESENTS Tomorrow morning at 9:30 the college will resume its series of broadcasts offered as a public service by Station KOAL Appearing before the microphone will be Jenicne Young Gale Hamelwright and Lauren Miles all of the morning Journalism class Next week's program will be given by Mr Geary and the speech students A WELCOME V- i Well guys and gals I don’t see a sign of a line anywhere but in front of Gust's “Eatin' Store" at and the hectic registration pace “ain't" hectic any more So I kinda figure we're all settled down for nine months of the regular grind In all seriousness though just the thought that we're all here to prepare ourselves for future positions in American society is truly Even more inspiring inspiring is the thought of the job we can do as citizens of a present society —Carbon college Although we are technically divided into a college and a high school as a student body we are one It is with this thought that I as student body president welcome each student to Carbon with a sincere hope that we will all work together with our advisers towards one goal— a greater Carbon college noon ARLEN CLAVEL Once again the rooms of Carbon College are filled to capacity with students eager(?) to get back where they left off the previous year The halls are jammed with students who promise to bring a spirit of newness to ole' Carbon making this year one of the best the school has ever seen Speaking of newness there are some new faces on the faculty which of course is of interest to everyone at Carbon Mrs Donna B Hansen girls' physical education teacher comes from Ogden city schools It looks like the girls have a peppy gym class to look forward to attending The new speech Instructor Mr Elmo G Geary hails from the neighboring school of North Emery The rumor is that he certainly knows his work Mr Herbert Larsen comes from the University of Utah He is the new counselor and a very good one at that Out on the football field Mr Dolan Condie coming from the University of Utah and Mr Lyle Koller from Brigham Young University are prominent Mr Condie is on the high school coaching staff and Mr Koller is with the college Not only are but in they busy on the grid-iro- n as well Mr Conthe class-roodie teaches history while Mr Kol-l- er prefers mathematics It looks as if the faculty is out and one that promises to show and guide the students along the path of knowledge m well-round- ed well-trodd- en CARA REDD ENTERS BEAUTY CONTEST Miss Cara Redd petite blonde sophomore coed daughter of Mr and Mrs Ben Redd this week at the State Fair enters the Miss Utah contest for 1931 Last spring Cara was chosen Miss Carbon College and the interest of the entire area will go with her to Salt Lake City |
