Show Volume 15 Carbon College Price Utah Friday February 17 1950 Carbonites Ready For Grapples Number 18 CARBON TO HOST WRESTLING MEET Carbon's wrestlers from left to right back row: Gene Heath Grant Turner Charles Madsen Front: Don Rowley and Allen Nelson Speech Students B A C Feature Original Work Yesterday afternoon 20 people students and two chaperones left Carbon to go to the speech meet at BAC The students who went and the activities in which they are going to participate are as follows: Betty Lou Allred—mem orized and extemporaneous poetry Mary Austin—debate Betty Jo Beck— memorized and extemporaneous poetry and speaking Tom Bithell —debate Marta Black— memorized and extemporaneous poetry radio announcing and radio news analysis Robert Bryner— debate Donna Easton— oratory memorized poetry extemporaneous poetry LaRae Ellett— debate David 18 The original radio skit being used by our speech students at the B A C tournament “The Bye of Gatier" was written by John Dastalos It is based upon an authentic legend of Tibet Parts will be played by David Fausett Brent Llndstrom and Marta Black Some of the poetry to be used was written by Carbon people Betty Jo Beck will use “Uncle William" a poem in blank verse by Mr Washburn Betty Lou All-rwill give Ellen Thompson's “Winter Night" and Marta Black will present one of her own ed "Playmates" Speech Meet extem-peraneo- us -- (Continued to Page Three) Carbon High School will be the host to the state wrestling meet which will be held in the gym tonight and tomorrow Approximately 15 high schools will be represented by a total of 96 boys All of these wrestlers qualified for the championship matches by placing first or second in preliminary matches held last week at various schools Carbon host of the championship meet will be represented by five boys who were able to qualify at their preliminary match at Provo They were matched against Area Two schools which consisted jf Davis Provo and Carbon The Carbon boys who were able to gamer honors last week: Don Rowley Allen Nelson Grant Turner Gene Heath and Charles Madsen Other schools who will bring their best to participate in the championship bouts include defending champion Weber and one of the favorites again Box Elder Ogden Davis Provo South Cache Delta Gunnison Millard Beaver Lincoln Uintah and Cedar City Friday's program will find the participants weighing in and drawing for opponents at four o'clock At seven o’clock the first round of matches will begin Saturday's schedule will find the semifinal matches being held at ten o’clock and finals or chamin pionship bouts at seven-thir- ty the evening Coach Claude Cowley will be in charge of the tournament Cossack Chorus Coming The famous Russian Don Cossack chorus will make an appearance Monday night at the Civic Auditorium as part of the school entertainment and Community Concert program It promises to be one of the best programs of the year |
