Show April 9 1948 Volume 13 Carbon College Graduation Plans Drawn by College Leads Secret Planning Plans for the Sophomore exercises to be held com-menccm- ent May 22 were outlined this week when the graduation committee consisting of Joel Johnson chair? man Barbara Campbell Dorothy Miles James Dart and Dick Scow met with Dr Jones and Mr William Cross It was decided that the class will graduate in caps and gowns with Superintendent E L Bateman presenting the diplomas The invication will be given by Reverend Richard E Halbert and benediction by Fletcher B Hammond with Dr John T Walquist Dean of Education at the University of Utah as the principal speaker Speech of welcome will be given by Cal Johnson Sophomore Pres- ident Special guests are to be invited from the surrounding communities including the state and county board members The Senior Graduation committee met today at noon and points decided upon will be announced later 8 From Carbon Enter State Speech Final "We’ll probably have a tough time up state but come what may we're going to give them a run for their money" stated Boyd Fjelsted one of the debaters who will journey to Salt Lake for the State Specih Final April 18 and 17 to be held at the University or Utah Only debaters allowed to participate are the district winners throughout the state Each region is allowed to send In s'x debaters orators and extemporaneous speakers Carbon will send John Jones and Jimmy Lee Dick Baker and Dixon Lee Boyd Fjelsted and Jimmy Roberts for debate Alene Neilson orator Merlene Forsyth orator and extemporaneous speaker VERNA M ARSING WHAT’S GOING ON? The first line in the above verse is not only what Verna Marsing club president asserted but it also seems to be the motto of the other members of the Pep at least as far as the topic of their assembly to be held Friday April 16 is concerned The only information let out so far is that It is being directed by Verna Marsing and Enid Seaton The entire play was written by the assembly committee composed of Enid Seaton chairman Elaine Waterman Verna MarParalce Johnston sing Shirley Kofford Pat Cima Lee Gordon Joan Barber Jeanne Rowley Belli Frandscn and Mrs Lyle Lamph advisor College Debaters In Weber College Tilt Two college debate teams in response to an invitation from the Phi Rho Pi a national debate society will journey to Ogden to participate in the tournament to be held at Weber college April 13 16 and 17 The trip is expected to supply Freshmen debaters with experience and improve their skill in anticipation of next year's work The two teams will pay their own expenses I R C club will sponsor a dance featuring Jimmy Dart’s Orchestra to raise the money ol cover the cost of the trip The dance will be held on April 16 and it is hoped will raise enough money to cover the expenses entailed by the trip Mr Rene Ballard will accompany the debaters |
