Show Page 24— The Herald Journal Logan Utah Sunday August 30 1998 Birthdays Paid announcements Maurer’s 80th Eighty years ago on Aug 24 1918 Phebe Jessop Maurer was born in Millville Utah to Joseph and Frances Jessop Her parents seven brothers and one sister welcomed her into this world as the youngest of nine children Phebe learned very early in life to be very industrious and hard working In her youth she and her sister spent summers working with her brothers on their ranch in the Pocatello Valley The rest of the year was spent helping on the farm in Millville where she learned to ride horses cook wonderful meals and bake beautiful cakes In 1935 she married Oscar Theodore Maurer and moved to Nibley where they purchased a small farm Phebe worked very hard with Oscar raising various crops on the farm and caring for the farm animals After Oscar passed away in 1964 Phebe was employed by Allen’s Dress Shop The Red Fox and ZCMI where she retired Phebe is the loving mother of four children: Janet (Denis) Mathewson of Piedmont California Susan (John) Taylor Fran (John) Payne and Tim (Betty) Maurer all of Nibley She had two other children Theodore and Betty who died as infants Phebe has nine grandchildren and three whom she adores Phebe has always been a strong influence in the lives of her children She is a person en i fun-lovi- who loves to laugh and make jokes She loves to dance and from the time she was very young would go to dances that were held in the Valley Phebe also loved to golf and joined the Smithfield Ladies Golf Association where she enjoyed golfing with her friends Her family appreciates and loves her for her dedication to them They admire her courage through her struggles and her strong will to keep going Her family loves her a kit! Bagley’s 90th Nellie Cartwright Bagley is celebrating her 90th birthday on Saturday Sept 3 1998 at the Richmond City Park Her three children are hosting the family social where they and her grandchildren 41 12 en six and other family members will enjoy celebrating Phebe Maurer Nellie Cartwright Bagley with her Nellie was born in Staffordshire England on Sept 2 1908 the fourth child of Albert and Sarah Ellen Cartwright The fam- pated in some Stake Dramas Though she has had several major surgeries during her life she still enjoys good health She is the neatest hand writer in the family in spite of her age She has been blessed with some wonderful neighbors and Friends her entire life She worked for the telephone Company for many years as well ily left England and came to America in 1911 First settling in Preston Idaho then later moving to Franklin and to Richmond in 1922 Her father and brothers were employed with the Sego Milk Company She married Grant L Bagley a teacher and businessman on Aug IS 1928 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple They spent their entire married life in Richmond He passed away in 1949 leaving her a widow for the past 49 years Their children are: Loene (Louis) Robinson Richmond G Richard (Billie Lu) Richmond and LuAnn (David) Monson Clearfield Nellie had five brothers and one sister: Bert Harold Arthur and Leonard (all deceased) Victor and Lula (Marcel) Baer She has always had a great love of animals especially horses She was a member of the Richmond Glee Club for many years and sang countless duets with Lona Smith at local funerals She has always enjoyed sewing and has made numerous Afghans for famShe is an exceily members llent cook and enjoys it very much though cooking only for herself for these many years She was an active member of both the Literary Club and the Womens Friendship Club in Richmond She was baptized a member of the LDS Church in the mill run in Franklin in 1916 with some other members of the family She has held numerous church assignments during her life and partici- - Child adult care food program available All Utah licensed or state res- idential certified or license-exem- pt relative care child child care providers are invited to contact Utah State University concerning the Child and Adult Care Food Program The program reimburses either tier I or tier II rates to day care providers for meals served to all enrolled children For more information call or 797-216- 9 or as for Sego Milk USU and Gossner Cheese until retiring at the age of 71 She still resides in Richmond in the family home she and Grant built almost 60 years ago Raymond Bailey Darky honored him at a dinner celebrating his 90th birthday Raymond was born Aug 26 1908 in Wellsville Utah the son of Thomas Thirkell Darley and Selena Bailey Darley He still resides in the house where he was born and enjoys good health He owned and operated a farm in Wellsville and was also employed at Thiokol and the Defense Depot He still enjoys talking about crops and cattle with his son and sons-in-la- w Raymond married Margaret Bowen April 13 1936 in the Logan LDS Temple They were married nearly 62 years before her death March 27 of this year He served in the California LDS Mission from 1947 to 1949 and with his wife Margaret in the Albuquerque LDS Mission from 1983 to 1984 He has held many church positions including ward clerk and Seventies president and was a member of the Wellsville 1st Ward choir for over 30 years He has been a faithful temple worker for the past 23 I He also served as a Wellsville City councilman Raymond and Margaret are the years parents of NorRene (Merrill) Green Middleton Idaho Paul (Marilyn) Darky Wellsville and Nancy (Richard) Yonk Peters-bor- o They have 12 grandchildren 28 and en 13 Happy Birthday dadgrandpa we love you!
