T-- 7 a 7 i!o are more Hkefy gathered out of a multitude of tongues than through any kind of “Right conclusions to i ftllnVllffflfjUM aJAuy W — Judge Learned Hand American wM (1172-16- Wednesday August 26 1998 Page 13 Your view issues need Wildlife public involvement To the editor: Living in a small town I delight in encountering or at least knowing that a myriad wildlife species inhabit the mountains and river environments near my home Whether I ride my horse or hike I love seeing foxes in the sage moose in the aspen and the occasional cougar track on remnant snow I count these the lucky days of my life I have always believed that speaking in defense of wildlife is critical to let decision-make- rs know that wild creatures have an important indeed critical place in this life we all share A dangerous group of Utahns who want to see wildlife managed solely as a crop without regard for its ecological importance has proposed to remove wildlife issues from the realm of public involvement via the unjust and dictatorial Proposition 5 they have placed on the November ballot Other issues that discriminate against certain Utahns will surely follow in this style if Proposition 5 is allowed to pass It constitutes a terrifying change in the way citizens can freely practice their 'right to vote Like all wild critters I cherish my 'freedom Assure yours and vote down this proposition Or perhaps you want someone who thinks he is smarter and has a better understanding of (how democracy works to make impor-'tadecisions for you and around Beaver included in the pending federalstate land swap Like many residents we do not believe that Logan Canyon is the proper place for convenience stores condos and dude ranches projects that will only serve the pockets of a few while destroying a place held dear by many Limited and tightly con- trolled development in and around Beaver Mountain seems responsible and prudent We are against a centralized fraudulent bureaucracy that dictates a federal “pork barreT works project by manipulating data while never truly considering the safety of the people who travel through the canyon A case in point: LCC conducted an inventory ofadvisoty i speed signs and curve signing along the present highway There aren't any (except on the Carden City side of the summit) and UDOT’s response to our inventory was that they would “review the curve signing and advisory speeds to better inform the public" Nothing has been done and that was August 1996 We don't believe that our families' safety is really their concern The members erf LCC are a part of the Cache Valley community We are committed to the health the lifestyles and the values that make this community a place to live a place we all call self-servi- nt Margaret Pettis jtfyrum Canyon coalition outlines goals Td the editor As the newly elected president of the Logan Canyon Coalition I want to reaffirm and help define the Coalition’s posi- - Aaahh Michael friend of my youth there’s another way We needn’t be blocks of wood and we needn't be piles of ash I don't care what kind of metaphor you choose — if creativity is a fire then let me tell you that the fire can like that Biblical bush burn on and on and never be consumed If creativity is water then let me tell you that the water can flow on and on like the water from Mimir’s Spring that Odin sacrificed his own eye to drink There’s not an iota of romance in being bloated depressed and artistically fgnant The true artist is like a warrior an armored knight of old whose shoulder has been touched by a bright sword and who has been bidden to go forth with discipline and joy to subdue the Dragon I can't say that I know the way to go yet Michael but I'm never going to quit looking and trying like you have I won't cut any deals with dissolution I’ve felt die fire and I’ve tasted the water and I'm determined to keep on creating bound to keep on chasing the Dragon until it is beaten and tamed to serve me Bye-by- e y’all it's been good!
