But belief is a powerful antidote to fear and Rebecea’smade her strong trusting and anxious to be on her way So it was without hesitation she walked through a door leaving behind her safety net of family and friends to start out on a new challenge Rebecca is now missionary for the LDS-Churc- Like so many other sons and daughters of has accepted the task of teachCache Valley ing the church's gospelto others in the world For IB months Rebecca will eat sleep and drink the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Pa- y Saints and ilwill be her job hum dusk to dawn seven days a week to share those teachings with the people of Portugal The oldest daughter of Karl and Amy White “Becca" didn't always see a mission as part of her future She might have known given the fact she grew up surrounded by a love for Jesus Christ and the Mormon religion In fact both parents serv ed missions of their own Mom in Italy and Dad in Germany But Becca received no pressure from parents with an understanding that each of their eight children must find his ot her own path So allhough it always hung there in the back of her mind it wasn't until her 21st birthday Becca knew how she'd be spending the next year and a half “I prayed and received an answer From the moment I turned in my papers it tclt right" The LDS Church requires women to wait until the age of 21 before serving a mission men are required to be IS years old Each missionary is asked to follow a formal application process which may help the Church account for the mote than 540U0 missionaries currently in the field While studying journalism at Brigham bung University Rebecca requested the nuxssary paperwork from her stake president Once she turned 21 in October she sent the documents into the church office She received her official call to the Portugal Lisbon North Mission He lore Christmas and March 10 two Jays before entering the Missionary Training Center found her perched alongside her family in their Hyde Park living room “Nervous?
