Show MACHINERY TO DISPLACE BEET TOPPERS field manager john P holmgren of the garland sugar factory stopped ft ff at Brigl DrIg hain iain for a few hours yesterday forenoon on his return from provo whither he went to inspect ty O beet topping machines aich have been perfected by residents orf of provo and payson there are machines in the set one cue tops the beets evenly and accurately cura tely as art an expert topper can do the work and the other comes along pulls the beets out of the ground and carries them along in a hopper from which they can either be dumped in piles on the field or can be elevated into a beet rack the same as wheat from a header each machine is constructed ted in three sizes a one IKO and four row capacity and each is pulled by a span of horses or more if ane man and a team tjui one of these toppers can talc take the tops off three acres of beets per day and the entire outfit will sell for from to per set ac according carding to the capacity so it will readily be seen that the harvesting machinery will almost pay for itself in one year on a small farm and will more than pay for itself in one year on a large farm these machines are going to be manufactured and placed on tile the market for next years beet harvest but only of them to include both inventions will be manufactured at the demonstration which was carried out on wet soggy land as well as land that was tho thoroughly Toughly dried out the machines worked almost perfectly and the demonstration was witnessed by represent ives ef 0 both the big sugar companies doing business in this state as well as by scores of farmers |
