Correction: Barbara National Magazine Covers Beaver Athlete The January Sth 1998, issue of Sports Illustrated may have had Ivander Holyfield on its cover page and expansive articles on the four Super Bowl contenders, but if the reader scrutinized the popular weekly magazine closely he would have found a small picture and brief summary of the summer games accomplishments of Utah’s Robert Gent in the “Faces in The Crowd” section of the widely circulated periodical. “Tts an honor and certainly a surprise to have my picture and a Robert Gent brief article included in Sports Illustrated, but my _ greatest accomplishment was not winning 17 medals in the ‘97 summer games competition and being named the Utah and National summer games athlete of the year. Without doubt my greatest accomplishment has been the battle I’ve waged to get back my own health after being diagnosed some eight years. I have learned through trial and error and a lot of personal study that the human body can be rejuvenated with time by adhering closely to a word of wisdom or Mormon diet as some people call it. I have learned that there are five steps we each can take to overcome sickness, increase our energy levels and have good health. Here they are: #1 Take a walk in the fresh air and sunshine every day of our life when possible because oxygen is the great healer and the sun is the giver of life and energy. #2 Drink 6-10 glasses of pure eer each day as we’re 70% water and all the unique chemical changes that take place in the body need pure water as a catalyst. “Water is the Drink of Champions.” #3 Eliminate most or all saturated fat and unfriendly cholesterol type foods from the diet. They clog the system, and pollute the body. In 1996, according to a recent AMA Report, 1,000,000 of our fellow Americans died from strokes and heart disease related to diet. 990,000 of these deaths were preventable if the diseased had only changed their diet earlier in life the report concluded. We must use much more grain, vegetables and fruits in our diet for better health. #4 We all need to stop carrying grudges and forgive others. Hard feelings destroy health. #5 We each need to find out if there is a-God in heaven if we do not already know so and develop a meaningful relationship with Him. He can give us the strength to make dietary changes and the meds to improve our health,” Gent concluded. Mary Low Photo Published World-Wide Recently when the Sports Illustrated “Faces in the Crowd” editor could not coordinate a northwest Sports Illustrated photographer tosnap a picture of “Athlete of the Year” Robert Gent of Beaver for the January Sth issue of the widely circulated magazine. Beaver photographer Lowe was hired for the job. And what did the popular BHS photographer teacher have to say about her picture that will be circulated worldwide: “I’1l take a picture for $150.00.
