That night I was going to be called out to work for the UP.R.R. so I decided to be in bed early. About I 1:30 p.m. the phone rang. I though it was the railroad but it was our past mayor, ' Eugene Mayer, calling me. with the election results, welcoming me aboard. Little did I know what “Welcome Aboard” really meant! Then my education began as to what really makes a small town work. A reserve fund has also been established to help finance the expansion projects that are anticipated. Those plans include an eheeinn of the number of long term and acute beds available, and a new medical clinic. Milford Valley Health Care Services By John E Gledhill, CEO Milford Valley Healthcare Services This past year has been an exciting one for Milford Valley Healthcare Services. At the beginning of the year we set many challenging goals and in review we find that we have accomplished most of them. Our hospital's business continues to grow, our long term care center has a waiting list and more and more patients are returning to our local doctor's outpatient clinic.. Our recreational and social services have expanded to many daily worthwhile activities for our long term patients. Mothers needing OB services can now have the choice of having - baby in our new bytine room and have an epidural as well. We have gone from a ledger system with one computer work-station, to a new sophisticated computer system with 16 work-stations, a system that simultaneously does accounts receivable, accounts payable, departmental budgeting, payroll, billing and materials management. _ Paper work is being finalized onthe employment: of a second physician and working on brit in specialists through our telemedicine link up with the University of Utah's School of Medicine. ‘Educational and wellness programs have been and will continue to be offered through the schools for our youth and through our community for adults. We have a well-organized and staffed youth and adult hospital volunteer Teer and all’ emp ‘oyees now have job descriptions, performance plans and evaluations. We have ih rchaed anew sibalnce for Minersville and our Minersville outreach clinic is well on its way to becoming a reality. . Yes, when looking at our goals, this has been a successful year, however to meet these goals, there has been a price to pay in immediate expenses, in salaries, equipment, supplies, etc. In the shortfall, the increased demand on our services has created a very substantial impact to the operation of the hospital, expenses increasing fasting than revenue. Revenues needed to offset these expenses usually don't start coming in for 60 or more days after services are performed. This problem should decrease as collections start catching up, however with the continued growth in our area, and the need for new facilities, they may never catch up. — The growth in our area is fine and much needed, however the impact this is causing on our healthcare system cannot be ignored. We may not be able expand services as fast as we have this past year. We may be restricted by our facility as we might just outgrow it, In the future, without some help to improve and expand our facilities, current hospital operational monies may not be able to keep up with the monies needed to satisfy the demand for healthcare services. By being pro-active now, I am confident that through proper planning and with the continued support of our service area members and all of us working together, we can ensure many years of continued success of our healthcare system. * DWQ rated possible damage to aquifer from Circle Four Farms operation as an “acceptable risk.” * Toll Forever, owned by Lyle Carter and Leslie Bradshaw, won the George .
