Show » Milfors Monitor APRIL 14, 1995 beautification. ~ Milford Valley Memorial Healthcare Services Board Of Trustee’s Meeting March 22, 1995 Hospital The regular meeting was called to order by Chairperson Loretta Forman at 7:00 p.m. Those present were Chairperson Loretta Forman, Vice-Chairperson Jerry Mayer, Board Members Tammy Pearson, Gladys Whittaker, Larry Barnes, Craig Davie,’ Arlan Mayer, Shanna Carter and Steve Administrator John Austin, Gledhill, Director of Nursing Reha Gray, Service District Chairperson Russel Mayer and Member Howard Pryor. The minutes of the "previous meeting were read and approved. The financial statement was discussed in detail, both for the clinic and the hospital. It was moved by Larry, seconded by Gladys, that the financial statement be accepted. Motion carried. John reported that the new computer system had provided an excellent tool for tracking accounts receivable, providing an opportunity to work with the patients for the best solution for both them and the hospital to collect the accounts. He also reported that. with the detail provided with the new financial « statements, it is much easier for him and the department heads to identify where the opportunities for . costs savings are. Reha reported for the nursing department. We now have 31 people registered for classes for the LPN course. A defibrillator was purchased with part of the grant money received. Quality assurance reports are being done monthly; a quarterly summary will . be provided the Board of Trustees. Changes made in the nursing home Arlene Malchus applied for the grant and will chair _ this activity. May. Work should begin . 1 and will involve several | organizations - within the community. 2. The Policy and Procedures Manual was presented and tentatively approved by the Board. 3. The oxygen system had been installed; cost effectiveness has improved. 4. We are advertising for a part time grounds keeper, approximately 20 hours/week; position will qualify for part-time benefits. 5. Reported that Tony Prodzinski is doing an excellent job as head of Maintenance. 6. Plan to use matching grant funds to assist with employee training. 7. Working on writing a grant with Three-County Wellness Consortium. The focus will be on nutrition, diet and exercise. 8. Draft personnel policy manuals were passed out and reviewed. It was moved by Craig and seconded by Larry that the manuals be approved for 60 days to provide and opportunity for board members to study them in depth prior to unconditional approval. Motion carried. The first order of business under new business was election of officers. Loretta Forman was nominated by Tammy Pearson for Chairperson and was elected by Acclamation. Jerry Whittaker for Vice-Chairperson and was elected by acclamation. It was moved by Craig Davie and seconded by Larry Barnes that nominations cease; motion carried. John reported that the hospital was awarded a grant for a partial payments on a new radio system, defibrillators, and dinner schedule have been met purchase of gurney. Pearson to go into Tammy executive session at 7:45; motion carried. It was moved by Craig Davie and seconded by Larry Barnes to come out of executive session at 8:15 p,m.; motion, carried. Rofin Mott, Director of Home Health, presented the evaluation for Home Health completed by the Professional Advisory Committee. - This committee will meet biannually or as warranted to review and advise the Home Health Agency functions. Robin also reported that the Communi-Call system has been very successful. John reported on the following in the Administrator’s’ report to the Board: 1. Do your citizens really want this much water diverted to hog watering and slaughtering? Is an operation with Dr. Phillips for radiology services; motion carried. It was moved by Larry and seconded by Arlan that we offer Dr. Puen-a contract; motion carried. Chairperson _ Forman reminded everyone that the meetings will be held at 7:30 p.m. from now until October. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:21 p.m. . The so-called “experts” coming to put down your concerns--do not be intimidated. This is big business coming in to take over our land; “farming”. — There are good sources of information in our states: Center for Rural Affairs in Nebraska, Prairie fire in Iowa, Land Stewardship in Minnesota.
