Sometimes the jail would go over and the other team would catch it so iutead of throwing it back over the roof they’d charge around to your tide of the house and try to tag a member at roar team with the bafl If tagged you would then have to join the ranks of the team that tagged you If you threw the ball orer the house at the Ronald Y Jensen Living Historical Farm it would travel back in time about 0 years from the time it left your lingers until it reached the hands of the Bttie girl on the other side She wouldn't be wearing tennis shoes — she’d be wearing dark stockings and a long cotton dress as would the rest of her friends But she’d be laughing shouting and playing Auntie I Over with you just the same Her name is Beth Wyatt 80-9- KIRK DOUGLAS1 MISSING LINK and she grew up around the torn of the century on the site where the Ronald V Jensen living Historical Farm now stands When you were all out of breath and your heart seemed to pound in your forehead from playing Auntie I Over Beth might run around to your side of the house with stray bits of hair flying and sticking to the sweat on her forehead and neck and suggest that you come swing with her in the front yard The swing is a board with two holes on eaeh side where ropes run through and are knotted on the bottom The ropes are tied up in a tree by the edge id the unpaved driveway leading to the home that the Wyatts built in 1887 You would both swing high and look out over the early summer green of Cache Valley’s fields Beth’s sisters and her cousins from across the street might come out then and get you to play Kick the Can with them They’d make you be “it” first so you’d dose your eyes and count to 10 while they hid Then it was a merry chase when they all tried to sneak back in and kick the can while you tried to tag them Or maybe they’d rather play Run Sheep Run So first all of you would figure out where the two sheep pens would be (on the opposite sides of the playing space) You and a boy in overalls would be coyotes or wdves and chase the rest id the kids or “sheep" as they ran back and forth from pen to pen After you were panting from playing these games it would be a fast darkening A and time for you to head back to tiie But if jon came on the right night and were lucky you might just catch a glimpse of Beth’s older brothers returning home with friends from a dance A light would go on in the west bedroom window and you’d know that Beth’s father Frank Wyatt was getting up to play his accordian for the young people to dance to and sing to in the kitchen A few accordian notes of "The Heel and Toe Polka" or “Coming Through the Rye” would follow you as you Journeyed back to your late 20th century home If you came back to Beth’s torn at tiie century farmhouse the next afternoon looking for your playmate of the previous evening you would have to wait awhile for Beth to fiwfah her indoor chores StiQ you’d probably have time to play a late afternoon game of One Old Cat which you find was like baseball only with three to four players Beth would take her turn at pitching you would bat and try to run to first base and back to home before you got tagged If you got tagged you’d have to be the pitcher the old pitcher would become the catcher and the previous catcher would go 20th Century nm into the Wyatt’s kitchen and Beth says there’s time to play another game before dinner Would you like to play checkers Button Button Who has the Button?
