Enterprise No longer will you have to suffer sutter through this column We Weare Weare Weare are now placing our journalistic 30 30 on on STAhLE The new owners will be the sole owners of the key to the newspapers newspaper's executive washroom washroom washroom wash wash- room as of Friday September 1 We can honestly say that we have enjoyed the past 12 years in this area and have deep regrets re regrets regrets re- re grets at the thought of leaving the area Publishing a weekly paper aswell as aswell well as other types of business has its hazards We know that people are often offended by things that are printed in the columns of the paper We have tried to feature only news of the cities and county and not feature sensational items which would ruin the reputations of people in the county But sometimes some some- times Umes some things had to be printed for the good of the entire county These tasks are not pleasant for anyone We do appreciate the support support sup sup- port that we have received from the businesses and Indi individuals of Sanpete County Publishing two small papers in a rural area like Ilke we live in Is no easy task It takes the support of everyone to keep them going As we leave the active publishing publishing pub pub- lishing business it will mark the first time In 31 years that I haven't been under the pressure pressure pressure pres pres- sure of newspaper deadlines I received my Introduction Into this hectic trade at the age of eight In my fathers father's plant in Bountiful I worked there during during during dur dur- ing my growing years and then moved to the Tribune and Deseret Deseret Deseret Des- Des eret News after turning 16 Joyce was thrown Into the newspaper routine just 12 years ago but no one ever caught on faster than she did Just show her once and she had It U mas mas- I would like to publicly thank her for her ler support during the past 12 years She has worked hours and hours above the 40 normally worked by most peo peo- pIe each week Many times she maintained the night all-night vigils vigUs with me and never complained A great deal of the success that we have attained during the past 12 years Is due to her efforts This business probably would have faltered long ago without her support Although we will not be operating operating oper oper- the newspapers any longer and will be spending much of our time In Provo we want you to know that we are planning frequent trips back home to Sanpete to see the people that we have learned to love and appreciate so much during these past 12 years Living on a budget is the same as living beyond your means except you have a record record record rec rec- ord of It Last week I gave the sales pitch and didn't make the sale because I forgot to Include the pertinent Information We were attempting to drum up business for the new Sanpete Sanpete Sanpete San San- pete Palisade Golf Course and promised that we had printed a map of the nine-hole nine course It didn't take long for local legal-eye legal Louis to spot that the map was missing The copy of the map was still sitting on the basket where we keep our copy During the past few tew weeks the local golfers have been testIng testing testing test test- ing their skills on a portion of the course But come Labor Day head putter Gary Hoi Holman man hopes to have all nine holes on the course In full operation We will try and remember to include the map In this weeks week's edition edmon A sitter baby-sitter is a teenager teenager teenager teen teen- ager who comes In to act like an adult while the adults go out to act like teen For all of you who are heaving heaving heaving ing a sigh of relief because you feel that you have finished your work with the Mormon Miracle Pageant you'd better watch out I mentioned a few months back that a new resident In Manti Mantl was doing his level best to promote the pageant even though he had never seen it It Times have changed John Huggle Huggie Hoodenpyl a Dutchman who dared to emigrate emigrate emigrate emi emi- grate from Oregon Into Scandinavian Scandinavian Scandinavian country took the bit In his mouth and personally distributed distributed distributed dis dis- about brochures last year In about 30 of the states and never spent one red cent for postage He somewhat apologized that he hadn't covered a bigger area but he was limited In inthe the matter of time The brochures weren't printed until last spring But that will all be changed this year For the first thing John has seen and Is converted to the pageant Secondly they have given him the dubious title of chairman to distribute them or else gang for next year Last year very few out-of- out state cars escaped his atten atten- tion Consequently very few of them left the area without takIng taking taking tak tak- ing some of the brochures His new assignment begins the first of the year He will willbe willbe be armed with a fresh supply of brochures When Huggle Huggie accepts an assignment as assignment assignment as- as he puts his whole heart and soul Into It After January first you will probably see him stationed just outside of Mantl Manti near the temple wearing his 2 1 wooly chaps 2 17 gallon hat and Rudolph Valentino purple vest As the cars stop Huggle Huggie will jump up to the window and start his routine First he tips his derby to the female set of the family and gives a slight twitch of the mustache Then he really goes Into ac ac- ac tion He searches out such information In Information information in- in formation as to how many friends and relatives they have and then counts out the appropriate appropriate appropriate number of brochures He then gains a commitment for them to bring the whole gang and attend the pageant So So dont don't be alarmed next January If U you happen to come across an Omaha orange Plymouth Plymouth Plymouth Ply Ply- mouth station wagon containing a dude with chartreuse chaps elegant white 2 17 17 1 gallon topper topper top top- per purple vest and blue hands and face its it's just Huggie dazzling the female population pop into nagging their husbands husbands husbands hus hus- bands into coming to the pageant next su summer mer Epitaph on a pessimists pessimist's headstone I expected this and here I am t BOOTH W |
