Show Geology students arrive at Snow Like the people of Capistrano watch for the return of the swallows so the people of Ephraim Eph- Eph raim note that some time after the spring exodus of the Snow College students the campus will soon be host to geology students from Ohio State University University University Uni Uni- and the Summer Institute This year there have fr been sev several ral other groups on a campus since the close of Si school There has been the state H 4 group the Region Seven Music Clinic Snow Colleges College's Colleges College's Colleges College's Col Col- leges lege's summer school students and several short term youth groups but last week even the week before we began to n notice a few adult strangers a around sometimes with children children children chil chil- d dren and we noted that a number number number num num- b ber of license plates were from Q out of state that th the familiar 0 Ohio State vehicles had arrived Familiar to us because of t their long time In Sanpete Dr E Edmund Spieker and his lovely v wife were among the first to i a arrive Dr Spieker again heads the National Science Foundation i s Summer Institute of Geology a and the Nature of Science Dr s is assisted again this j year by Dr H H. H K Lauten- Lauten s from Bakersfield c California who Is the head of t t the Division of Physical Science 5 a at Bakersfield College There are 27 teachers of f g geology and earth science inthe inthe in i t the group and they come from i 14 states and as far apart as 5 1 Maryland New York and Vir Vir- ginia on the east to California and Washington on the west States represented in between Include Pennsylvania Michigan and Vermont Wisconsin Ohio and Iowa and Wyoming and Utah There are 18 wives and 32 children with the summer institute and children come in all ages from one to about 15 years Dr George Moore of Ohio State University is In charge of the 30 summer students from that school He is assisted by Dr Corbato also from Ohio State and Dr Elliot who comes from England Almost one- one fourth of the Ohio State group this year are married and they have a number of children with them Dr Jim Collinson who has been here with the Ohio State group for a couple of years Is on leave on a special project project project pro pro- this summer The visitors from Ohio and other states have commented again on the friendly greetings they get in Ephraim And its it's like someone said If you cant can't travel perhaps the next best way of l learning arning about the world is to meet folks from another area So as we welcome the geologists to Ephraim again this year perhaps we can learn a little from them and maybe they'll take home some impressions impressions im- im that they gained from living a few weeks in the summer summer summer sum sum- mer in Sanpete |
