Show Clean up kickoff slates slated Saturday The Ephraim City CUy Council this week announced the appointment ap appointment appointment ap- ap of Spencer E. E Olsen as chairman of the city cUy cleanup cleanup cleanup clean clean- up and improve Improvement ment campaign for 1971 Mr Olsen has named three men to serve In the capacity of ward chairmen Assuming these roles will be Douglas L L. L Bessey In the North Ward Perry DeMill South Ward and Douglas H. H H Olson In the West Ward They are currently appointing appointing ap appointing ap- ap pointing block chairmen The new up clean-up chairman and his Ms ward chairmen held a recent meeting with Mayor Vertis Ver- Ver h Nielson where plans were made for the summer It was decided to designate Saturday May 1 as the up clean-up kickoff date with emphasis placed on cleaning up around the outside of the home The following Saturday Saturday Saturday Sat Sat- May was set aside to work on vacant lots Mr Olsen also noted that Snow College Is eager to co cooperate cooperate cooperate co- co operate in the up clean-up move move- ment The college students have set aside Thursday May to gather rubbish from the city streets and load it on city equipment to be hauled away Student body president Jim Tatton will organize and direct this program City CUy equipment will be used from time to time to haul away trees rubbish etc for people who do not have the trucks and other equipment to do the project for themselves Mr Olsen noted The city cUy Is furnishing prizes for homes and surroundings with the greatest Improvement through the summer Judges will be appointed to decide the winner The first prize winner will receive 30 with 20 going going go go- go ing to second place and 10 to the third place winner Mr Olsen made several suggestions suggestions suggestions sug sug- as to what Ephraim residents could do to help beautify beau beau- their city 1 Prune dead branches from living trees remaining 2 Remove all old car bodies unused equipment and other metallic junk and sell to dealers deal deal- ers 3 3 Remove or repair and paint all dilapidated barns and other buildings 4 Remove or repair and paint all broken down fences 5 Remove large stones de debris debris debris de- de bris trash and litter from streets and vacant lots 6 Keep streets free from litter by periodic pickup 7 Control loss of trash from trucks and trailers on road to municipal dump areas 8 Grade streets and ditch banks to improve appearances and facilitate weed control 9 Spray weeds on streets ane and ditch banks early in the season and during the summer before weeds become large |
