Show Stake presidency outlines S mountain property plan O 0 ye mountains high where the clear blue bluesky bluesky bluesky sky Is the opening line of a hymn that Is very familiar to almost every member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter Saints In our hippie oriented society given to drug abuse misuse of leisure time disrespect for law and order degeneration of moral standards standards stand stand- ards and the status of our air and water which are loaded with pollutants the words of this hymn take on a new meaning For many years local Church leaders have been encouraged by the general authorities to purchase mountain lands suitable for camping hiking and other recreational pursuits Added emphasis has been placed on this program In Inthe inthe inthe the past few months with the Church offering to provide each stake with 1000 from general funds toward such projects Another reason for the project was to provide areas where families may enjoy the beauties of our mountain country It will enable family members to learn how to get along with each other and during the summer months especially provide an outlet for their energies and a reduction of free time The four stakes of the Manti Region Gunnison Gunni- Gunni son Moroni Sanpete North and Sanpete South under the direction of the Regional Representative Representative Representative of the Twelve Clarence Robison and with the approval of their respective stake presidency presidency presidency dency high council bishoprics and general priesthood of the stakes set about to purchase acres of ground and lease another acres The stake leaders purchased acres of land from Morris Cook It Is located in the Miller Flat country about 14 miles mUes east from the top of Fairview Canyon A deal was soon made with George Collard of Provo for an additional acres of ground approximately six miles mUes east from the top of Fairview Canyon This property is located in Big Canyon It is expected that acres of state land adjacent to the acres purchased from Morris Cook may be leased from the State of Utah This land would be especially suited for camping by members of the four stakes A dam being planned by the Utah Power and Light Company would create a lake in the area This would add some new types of recreation recreation recreation rec rec- in fishing and water skiing The total cost of the land exclusive of the lease land is This figure does not Include any cost of development which may maybe maybe maybe be necessary water development fencing camping sites and other structures The four stakes have a total population of about persons The loan could be paid off immediately if each person in the four stakes could see their way clear to make a 5 donation toward the project The leaders of the four stakes involved have met with the Presiding Bishopric and reviewed the purchases with them These brethren have approved the project and expressed their full support It is necessary that we raise in money now a down payment on the land with the expectation that the Church will wUl finance the balance interest free over a period of from 5 to 10 years although If we should wish to pay off our entire amount now it would come to per person Any family wishing to make a per capita contribution or less should contact their ward bishopric VERNON L L.
