Show I rr L THE FORMER CANUTE PETERSON HOME Ephraim horns home listed on historical register The former Canute Peterson home In Ephraim this week was listed on the State Register of Utah Historic Sites The home owned now by Richard and Nadine Nibley Is located north of the Bank of Ephraim on Main Street The recently purchased the home and have been restoring it The announcement was made last week by Melvin Melvln Smith the preservation officer of the Utah Historic Sites Survey He said that the Utah Historical and Cultural Cultural Cultural Cul Cul- tural Sites Review Committee made this appointment at its January meeting This site along with a number number number num num- ber of others from around the state will now be considered for the National Register Mr Smith noted that those on the state register will receive wide state-wide recognition as well as being for some protection pro pro- from destruction by state financed projects Once a site is listed on the national register it has additional recognition recognition rec rec- and protection as well as becoming eligible for tor federal matching funds for its restoration restoration restoration restora restora- tion and preservation It was pointed out by Mr Smith He also said that he would like to see each county in the state establish their own register register regis regis- ter of sites which could bemore be bemore bemore more inclusive than either the state or national registers and from which recommendations could be made to the review co committee Persons Interested in historic historic historic his his- preservation are asked to contact Mr Smith at the Utah State Historical Society East South Temple in Salt Lake City |
