Show City council increases water rates The Ephraim City Monday night took action on an ordinance raising the rates for culinary water In Ephraim City Attorney Louis Louts read the ordinance to the council council coun coun- cil cU which amends Section of the revised ordinances of the City of Ephraim Utah providing providing providing pro pro- viding for an Increase of water rates The new schedule calls for fora a minimum monthly rate of or per quarter for forthe forthe forthe the first gallons of 01 water used Thereafter all water used will be charged as follows 16 per 1000 gallons used for the next gallons 15 per 1000 gall gallons ns used for the next gallons 14 per 1000 gallons used for the next gallons 13 per 1000 gallons used for forthe the next gallons 12 per 1000 gallons used for forthe the water over gallons After discussion on the matter matter matter mat mat- ter a motion was made by Councilman Councilman Coun COWl cilman cUman Clayton Peterson that the ordinance be adopted as read Councilman Reed Nielson offered a second A roll roil call vote showed all councilmen In favor of the ordinance The ordinance is published in this Issue of the Enterprise and becomes effective ve May The council ordered Leon Ros- Ros quist to start reading meters on May 27 The zoning ordinance 3 2 concerning fences In Zone R R-l was discussed It was noted that there are some fences which are in violation and since they create a safety hazard and also block the continuous view along the streets where they are located the council felt they should be changed to meet the requirements The use of Black Hill as a dump ground was discussed It was stressed that the city dump grounds are north of the city and that no dumping signs will be placed at Black Hill HUl Mayor Vertis Nielson appointed appoint appoint- ed a public property committee commit commit- tee to Investigate the exact location of the owned city-owned property property property prop prop- erty on Black Hill Nels I I. to accept recommendation of 1400 per square foot of living space for evaluating cost of homes and dwellings and per square foot for commercial buildings After a second by Councilman Robert Stoddard the council adopted the motion Councilman Stoddard also made a motion to accept the committee recommendation that where the total cost of the remodeling will be or or more a building permit will location of the lot with respect to lane survey monuments and size and location of the existing buildings and buildings to be erected The plat shall also show that the area of the lot or parcel of Several Items of business were discussed by the council at a special meeting held on Thursday April 23 Councilman Reed Nielson discussed three bids received by the city on power poles The three will investigate this offer Lee R. R Thompson representIng represent represent- ing Snow College was present to discuss connection of the new science building at the college to all utilities A motion by Councilman Leon Olsen seconded seconded seconded sec sec- by Councilman Stoddard granted permission to the college college college col col- lege to connect the new buildIng building building build build- ing with the sewer power and water Mr Thompson also asked permission to install a valve on the water line on the campus campus campus cam cam- pus which would allow them to shut the water off for sary repairs without shutting off such a large area The council granted permission to togo togo togo go ahead with this project with the stipulation that the college will wUl notify the city when they do this so that the city can have an inspector present Mr Kaiserman of Call Engineering Engineering Engineering Engi Engi- told the council that the present revenue received by the city is inadequate to cover the costs of the sewer which according to the bondIng bondIng bonding bond- bond Ing ordinance must be paid from sewer revenues He explained ex explained explained ex- ex the preliminary survey to the council Mr Kaiserman offered some suggestions for the sewer plant He recommended having the sent to Nickerson Pump Co to be overhauled The vent he had talked about should be installed the recorder record record- er along with a proportional weir He said that the orifices for the sprinkler arm have been ordered A motion was made by Councilman Peterson to go ahead with all the above recommendations Councilman Reed Nielson offered a second after which the council gave its approval |
