Show Mayfield Native Retires From Teaching After 45 Years Service Lester Hansen of Mayfield retired from the teaching profession profession profession pro pro- this year after 45 years of continuous service in edu educe cation Mr Hansen began his teachIng teaching teaching teach teach- ing career in Mayfield where he was an Instructor for 32 years and also served as pal pah Following the school consolidation consolidation consoli consoli- dation Batton and the closing of the Mayfield school he heL taught at ManU Manti Junior High and Ephraim Junior High According to his his' former students stud students stu stu- d dents Mr Hansen has changed attitudes inspired high ideals given strength and understanding understand understand- ing to thousands of pupils over the 45 year span Mr Hansen reports that he leaves the classroom with some regrets but with the feeling he has done his Job well He attended grade school and junior high school In n Mayfield He Is a graduate of Manti Mantl High School Snow College and the University of Utah At and B BYU YU he has done graduate work When a young man Mr Hansen Hansen Hansen Han Han- baseball sen was a a. dedicated player and at one time captained captained cap cap- twined the team Aside from teaching he owns and operates a small r ranch ch at Mayfield and runs cattle Mr Hansen has been active in church and community He was bishop of the Mayfield Ward twelve years During this time the new chapel was constructed He also served as first counselor counselor counselor coun coun- In the Gunnison Stake presidency for thirteen years He is well known for his speaking and singing abilities both at funerals and weddings Mr Hansen married Alice Larsen November 25 1925 in inthe inthe inthe the Salt Lake Temple They are the parents of five children children children chil chil- dren three of whom are still living Junior Lester Hansen Centerfield Mrs E. E Gayle Joye Hanson Gunnison and Mrs Alan Dee Ann Allred McGill Nevada They also have ten grandchildren grandchildren grandchildren grand grand- children and one great grand son Mr Hansen was ber 6 1903 at Mayfield the son of Jacob and Zina Christensen Christensen Chris Chris- Hansen He was honored at a faculty party at the Childs Child's Catering on his retirement four Forty-four teachers and associates were present Tributes were given by several teachers and a token of appreciation presented by the faculty for his many years of loyal and dedicated service t r u y F r LESTER HANSEN |
