P Madsen was named to take the reins of the Utah Cattlemen's As As- As Ned has been serving servIng serving ing the past few years as avice a avice avice vice president of that organ organ- Congratulations to Ned Nedi We know that he will be very successful successful suc suc- in this capacity So Friend yo you are really happily married Young Yes wife we have actually postponed our divorce di divorce divorce di- di vorce three times Annually the city councils of ot Manti and Ephraim have to putout putout put putout out an edict regarding dogs and that fact that the owners must keep them at home after dark And just as often we hear the stories of many sheep and fowl being attacked by packs of dogs roaming around the town after dark Many of the canine owners complain that the city legislators legislators legislators legisla legisla- tors are being unfair to them But through the many years and the various city councils not once have I noticed any real curb in the activity There has been some tapering off but no big decline The dog owners who feel that their pets are being persecuted should have taken a trip out outto outto outto to the Lee Barton Bartor farm several several several sev sev- eral weeks Lee reported re reported reported re- re ported for work that Saturday morning he found over of his herd killed or mutilated by dogs The estimated d loss ran Into the thousands of dol dol- lars Who is being discriminated discriminated against in this case This attack on livestock is not the only recorded incident this year but it shows the power of the common innocent innocent innocent inno inno- cent when he joins up with a gang and prowls around at night Lets Let's act now before more losses are recorded both in livestock and Children often orten get bored on long vacation trips We heard of one who said to his father I wish you'd let Mom drive its it's more exciting Far too often we receive inquiries in- in I Ito quirles as to why we bother to print the small news items that appear in the paper Our J t reply is always that our readers readers readers read- read i ers want to read them Now I I have the proof to back up that statement Around the first par part of December De December December De- De cember we received a nice letter which I 1 have appreciated ted very much It was written by Mrs Roy S. S Jackson Jackso of Bountiful a former resident of Ephraim She too adds her vote in favor of the small items with emphasis on the enlargIng enlarging enlarging ing of these columns Her letter read as follows Having been born and raised in Ephraim I continue to subscribe subscribe subscribe sub sub- scribe to the Enterprise be be- because be because because cause I am interested in the people and what the community is doing Therefore I have been dIsappointed disappointed disappointed dis dIs- dis- dis appointed the last while in the lack of small newsy Items concerning con con the residents Th These se small personal items are what make a a town paper interesting to the former residents The holiday season to this point has been a difficult one for our many correspondents They must turn in their news earlier than usual and are unable unable un unable un- un able to locate all the news by that time Secondly It is very Important to them that each and every everyone one of you call them to give them your news Next week things will be back to normal as far as our deadlines deadlines dead dead- lines Unes are concerned Make a resolution to call your ward correspondent this year every time you have news items The average number of times a man says No to temptation Is once weakly I As I was driving back from Ephraim to ManU Manti a week ago I noticed a number of horses standing out in in a sn snow snow w storm looking a bit on the cold side as they huddled together To add to the dilemma the fields in which they were standing were almost totally barren of any feed This Is an extremely hard sight to witness as you see animals which were probably all polished up last summer summer summer sum sum- mer to appear in a hors horseshow show or the fair parade and arenow are arenow arenow now standing In a desolate field I am sure that the picture is not as bleak as I am painting It because the owners are haulIng hauling hauling haul haul- ing in the feed for the animals At least I hope that they are remembering their trusty old mounts mount moult t.
