A Jorgensen Jorgensen Jorgensen Jor- Jor gensen to find out if any new developments have come forward forward forward for for- ward in the past few weeks Mr Jorgensen said that the commissioners had not taken any action on the matter or for that matter even had time to sit down to constructively discuss discuss discuss dis dis- dis- dis cuss the whole matter Doug said that some pressure has been placed on the county to join up with four other counties counties counties coun coun- ties Millard Juab Sevier and Wayne and form fonn an industrial group He said the commissioners commission commission- ers had talked briefly about this matter but that nothing had been done I expressed my doubts to Mr Jorgensen that such an alliance would be beneficial to the five Continued on page four The Ephraim City Council reviewed reviewed re re- re- re viewed its insurance insurance rates and group insurance plan at its regular regular regular reg reg- reg- reg ular business meeting g held Jan 22 in the council chambers GlennL Barth Bartholomew was in attendance at the meeting and stated that insurance rates for forthe forthe forthe the city gro group p insurance plan were going to be raised as of February 1 He had therefore contacted several other group insurance in insurance insurance in- in plan companies and compared prices He said that he feels that the Crown Life Insurance Insurance Insurance ance Co of Denver had the lowest lowest lowest low low- est rates and best benefits He stated that the cost to the city would be about the same as the present policy but that there were many increased benefits The council voted to change to the Crown Life Insurance Co group insurance plan as of February February February Feb Feb- 1 I 1968 The policy for Ephraim City councilmen and employees was discussed Councilman R Robert bert Stoddard had p presented a suggested suggested suggested sug sug- policy outline to councilmen councilmen councilmen council- council men and Mayor George Allred before meeting tim time It was felt by those present that this was a good policy and it was approved with a few minor changes The council scheduled a meeting meeting meeting meet meet- ing with all aU city employees to beheld be beheld beheld held January at the City Hall to discuss this policy before final approval is given The council app approved ved the following following following fol fol- fol- fol lowing appointments which were made for a two year period at atthe atthe atthe the present salary rates Merrill Daniels power power- department department department depart depart- ment superintendent Bart Draper helper Glen C. W Thomson deputy marshal Letters were signed by the mayor and councilmen to the newspapers and radio stations in Salt Lake City asking that the coverage on local sports events be given sooner if possible STAhLE Continued from page one counties involved I will concede that some good points could be found but to me it seems that the whole thing will boil down downto to the fact that feelings may result result re re- sult suit if one county seems to gain more more new industry tha than the oth oth- ers Mr Jorgensen also stated that he had heard a great deal of criticism about the county even maintaining the industrial cOmmittee committee com committee cOm cOm- because it wasn't doing abit a abit abit bit of good for Sanpete This idea in my opinion could not be further from the truth We have only been residents of Sanpete County a little over 7 years but I am firmly convinced that the work put forth by Lenn Jensen and Mr Wilkins along with the members of that com committee committee com corri- has paid dividends to this county When I talk to residents about the conditions in the employment employment employment employ employ- ment rolls of Sanpete ten years ago I seriously wonder how they can balk at continuing our efforts ef- ef efforts efforts ef ef- forts to gain small industry A couple of years ago the University University University Uni Uni- of Utah issued a report which said the the Manti ManU and Ephraim areas had stopped showing a decrease in population and had actually recorded a meager increase When I drive around thel two towns and seethe seethe see seethe the number of old homes which were formerly boarded up and showing signs of or decay that mai arenow are aro aronow now being renovated and lived in I feel that our new industries Industries industries indus indus- tries are truly improving the local areas Let me conclude by saying that I hope that the county will continue continue continue con con- its industrial development program and will now seek to find a man to head the group who will continue the hard fight to build Sanpete Beverly Hills Is very sive For instance its fire department department de de- wont won't make house calls The county commissioners also have another perplexing problem facing them if an upcoming election elec elee- tion is decided favorably In the regular commissioners meeting held the first part of January an appeal was made by a group from Gunnison Valley Valley Valley Val Val- ley to obtain obain to aid them in the building of their new hos hos- pital The citizens of Gunnison Valley are to vote on the bond election for funds to build the new hospital next Tuesday Jan |
