Show Searchers Find Lost Pair On Saturday November about 2 pm p.m. two Snow College students left Ephraim by car togo to togo togo go sight-seeing sight in the mountains They spent the afternoon driving driving driving ing around When evening approached approached approached ap ap- and a storm seemed imminent they took the first road that looked as if led out of the mountains That road led to the north fork of Manti ManU Canyon Canyon Canyon Can Can- yon and proved to be a dead By this time the storm had struck and increased in sity When the couple tried to return the same way they had come the car high-centered high in ina ina ina a ditch After many attempts to free the vehicle they decided to wait for daylight and help At 2 am a.m. the girls at the dorm becoming worried called Mrs Jensen the dorm mother Marshal Marshal Marshal Mar Mar- Gordon Thompson and Dean of Students Al AI Green were no no- They contacted Sheriff Grant Larsen The sheriff called the parents of the missing pair then he and Marshal Thompson spent the remainder remainder remainder re re- re- re of the night touring the mountains to determine the exact route taken by the students students stu stu- dents They returned to Ephraim at am a.m. to recruit help Sheriff Larsen contacted Dep Dep- uty Paul Christensen to get a team of the jeep patrol Sheriff Larsen and patrol members Lynn Dennison and Wayne Merriam Merriam Merriam Mer- Mer from Manti ManU proceeded ahead to narrow down the area to be covered Deputy Christensen Christen Christen- sen organized a search to cover the roads in the Ephraim and Manti ManU areas The Emery jeep patrol was notified They covered the Emery side of the mountains patrol notified their pilot to assist in the search from the air With the organized efforts of all parties the stranded couple was found and the car back on the road by noon Both were wet and cold with the girls girl's hands and feet s slightly frost-bitten frost but otherwise all right Members of the jeep patrol taking part in the search included in included included in- in Travis Jerry Hansen and Dennis Tucker Mt Pleasant Hal Hansen with his plane Ephraim also many students students students stu stu- dents and faculty from Snow College Sheriff Larsen commended the jeep patrol for its excellent work and extended his thanks to all for their willing and successful cooperation |
