Show Former Residents Resident's Husband Succumbs Harry A. A husband of Lind Olson passed away recently in Escondido Calif He was a veteran of three major major major ma ma- jor wars holding the rank of colonel when he retired from the Army He was a member of the Army during World War WarI I World War II a and d the Korean conflict He entered the Army in 1916 and two years later was made a captain During World War I he was in five campaigns and was twice wounded in the battles of Chateau Chateau Chateau Chat Chat- eau Thierry and Soissons For his leadership and bravery he was awarded the Silver Star and the French Croix de Guerre Eleven years later he became the youngest regular Army colonel colonel colonel col col- col- col onel at the age of 32 During World War II he was an Infantry Regiment Command Command- er In Japan at the close of the war he was Chi Chief f of Staff of the sided over the first war crimes Infantry Division and pre- pre trials After the war he served as chief of the Indiana Military District Chief of the US U.S. Army Mission to Costa Rica where he was appointed an honorary colonel colonel colonel col col- col- col onel in the Costa Rican Army by the President of that country country country coun coun- try and just before his retirement retirement retire retire- ment in 1957 he was commander of the Hunter Liggett Military Reservation and Camp Roberts in Monterey and San Luis Obispo Obispo Obis Obis- po Counties His wife the former Lind Olson Olson Olson Ol Ol- son left Ephraim a number of years ago When her family resided resided resided re re- re- re sided here they lived in the building where the Enterprise office is now located Lind worked with her father at the post office in Ephraim when he was postmaster He passed away April 17 1919 At that time she was residing in Washington DC D.C. but returned home to serve as postmistress until a new postmaster could be appointed After that the family family family fam fam- ily moved to Salt Lake City The couple were married November November November No No- vember 11 1921 Survivors include his widow two sons a daughter and 10 grandchildren Services were held in Escondido Escondido Escondido dido and burial was at the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery at Point Loma Lama Calif |
