Show August 3. 195$ the Western Mineral Survey. Salt Lake City Utak S Page New Fortune Sains New Claims in Honduras New Fortune has acquired additional claims, totalling 4000 acres tying on to original ground held in the Republic of Honduras, where field crews are now drilling the Batan copper discovery. The total claim group now comprises 6000 acres on which three important copper finds have indicated a mineralized zone four miles long bearing northeast Company engineers feel that sufficient open pit tonnages of high grade copper are indicated to support a profitable milling - operation. The new find called Santa Inez, four miles northeast of the Batan now being drilled, is a flatly dipping body over 80 feet wide that has been traced so far for 1200 feet. Complete sampling of old underground' workings believed to have been mined by early Spaniards, gave an average of four per cent copper. The Batan showing, now exposed for a length of 700 feet by 50 feet, returned an average grade of three per cent copper in and hydraulic ripper. The underdevelopment of the countrys mineral resources explains the liberal policy of the xovemment toward mining companies such as New Fortune.' New Fortunes copper property carries aboundant pine and oak for mining purposes, and 10,000 horsepower may he developed nearby. It is within four miles of a main highway, and a truck road is now built into and across the property, which is reasonably close to tidewater shipping facilities. No difficulties are anticipated in developing a mine. Although the mineral resources of the country include gold, silver, lead, antimony, iron, copper, tin, zinc, coal, cinnabar and pitchblende only 3600 of the wage earncountry's ers have been actively engaged in mining. Only 62 claims were filed in fiscal 1953, and the country is almost virgin prospecting half-millio- n ground. Mines Register New Mexico Survey Bureau Four new mining operations ' were registered recently with the office of the New Mexico mine in- spector in Albuquerque. The Winston Brothers registered the No. 3 shaft of the UN. Potash Co. for use by the first of the year. The shaft is to be connected with the rest of the firms underground workings. A 'vanadium mine, the Carrlzzo No. 1 in San Juan County on the Navajo reservation, was registered by Delmar M. Spafford and Son. The Coronado Mining and Mill- ing Co. reported that it Is opening an underground mica mine in Rio Arriba County, 3 miles northeast of La Madeira. A lead mine, called the Alamo Extension Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 12, was registered as operating in Section . Otero County. E, Part- ners in the operation are Alonzo Orosco, Lester Millhouse, B. J.
