REED L. REEVE, Secretary 612 Dooly Bldg., S A BID OF MORE THAN $300,-00- 0 for 120 acres of uranium land on the Spokane Indian Reservation topped a week of favorable mining news. THE WAY WAS CLEARED FOR A URANIUM MILL in the Spokane area when Dawn Mining Co., a subsidiary of Newmont Mining Corp., bid $317,500 for 120 acres adjoining the Midnite uranium mine in the Reservation. It was the lone bid. Other would-b- e bidders apparently sensed that Newmont was not going to be denied a second time. When this tract was put up for bid last July, there were four bids. Newmonts $67,000 bid was third low. High did was made by Continental Uranium of Chicago and Minerals Engineering of Denver at $167,850 but they reportedly could not negotiate a lease with the Indian owners . . . Midnite ore reserves are increased considerably by the transaction because the property line disected some of the best ore developed by Dawn at the Midnite. An AEC drill hole put down 75 feet across the line more than a year ago indicated 50 feet of 0.30 per cent ore starting at a depth of only 20 or 25 feet . . . Dawn has been working on plans for a $3,000,000 to $5,000,000 processing plant for months and an announcement can be expected soon. An accompanying buying station would hypo the local uranium market, which has been Salt Lake City, Utah time pending the big Date of first publication June marking move by Newmont.
